The Barn in Rickmansworth is a well-received holiday cottage, praised for its peaceful location, comfortable beds, and cleanliness. Guests appreciate the welcoming hosts and the proximity to local amenities and walking routes. While some suggest minor improvements and additional touches, the overall experience is positive, with many looking forward to returning and recommending it to others.
Guests consistently mention that the property is very clean and well-equipped, indicating high standards of cleanliness.
The location is described as peaceful, beautiful, and convenient, with easy access to local amenities and London. The rural setting is appreciated, though one guest mentioned noise from animals.
The beds are frequently noted as comfortable, and the property is generally found to be cosy. However, one review mentioned a lack of a homely feel and a cold atmosphere, slightly lowering the score.
Facilities are generally well-received, with suggestions for a dishwasher and a larger TV. Some guests noted missing items and Wi-Fi issues, indicating room for improvement in maintenance.
While guests mention a bottle of prosecco and milk on arrival, as gifts are not consistently referenced across reviews, it is not possible to accurately score thoughtfulness. However, such gestures, when provided, are a delightful surprise.

The Barn at Old Plough House is situated within a peaceful rural location in the village of Sarratt / Belsize. The village has a great local pub called The Plough (which can be reached on foot from your accommodation in just a matter of minutes). Other local pubs (all within walking distance should you wish or just a few minutes in the car) include, The Bricklayers Arms, Cart & Horses, The Boot and Two Brewers. In addition, if tea/coffee & cake is your thing then you won’t be disappointed as the local area has plenty to choose from and includes Blackwell’s and The Cake Shack, both based in nearby Chipperfield. Local and popular attractions include Rickmansworth Aquadrome, Cheslyn House & Gardens, Chenies Manor Gardens and plenty of local walking beauty spots including The Green, Sarratt Bottom Nature Reserve, Chess Crossing & Chipperfield Common. For those of you into either Golf or lazy Spa days, you’ll be glad to know that The Grove is only 10 minutes drive! However, The Grove also has some terrific restaurants and bars and often benefits from having a pop up outdoor cinema (check their website for dates and booking conditions). Watford is only 20 minutes away by car and here you’ll find lots of action, including Teamsport Go Karting, Top Golf, Hollywood Ten Pin Bowling, Cassiobury Park, Watford Museum and of course the Magical Warner Bros Studios where you can see the making of Harry Potter. We are dog friendly.

We arrived around 3.15-3.30pm and had left and returned home by 6.30am the following morning after booking for 3 nights. Unfortunately the cottage was lacking a warm homely feel. We did check in early so i don't want to be unfair on the host Ruth as she was really nice but there were basic things mising in the cottage such as tea towels, wine glases. We didn't have a good nights sleep at all but i would imagine this is to do with the rural location. There was animal noises coming from inside the roof which kept my dog up on guard all through out the night. The cottage was cold and dingy and just lacked that home from home feeling. For me the cottage lacked those little extra touches, for example i would warm the place up the morning of check-in, put the hot water on so guests can have a warm shower upon arrival, put some lamps on, maybe a pair of slippers for the cold hard floors etc, a bigger TV downstairs and Wi-Fi that doesn't continually drop. Overall a very disappointing trip!

Great hidden gem of a cottage in a peaceful location.Comfy beds and nice touch from our hosts … a bottle of prosecco and milk on arrival.Ideal base for a weekend away for a couple.Suggestions for improvement… installation of a small dishwasher, sink in bathroom a bit small. All else great 👍 😀

incredible place to stay. everything is beautifully presented and immaculately turned out. The cottage was absolutely fantastic for our needs of somewhere quiet and remote, yet accesible to London and Windsor!
