Grisedale Cottage is a well-loved, cosy property praised for its superb location with stunning scenery and peaceful surroundings. Guests appreciate the homely feel, spaciousness, and the convenience of having walks right from the doorstep. The local pub and proximity to Keswick are also valued. While some guests suggest updates and additional amenities, the overall sentiment is positive with many expressing a desire to return.
The cottage is generally described as clean and tidy. There are isolated mentions of minor cleanliness issues, but these do not detract significantly from the overall positive feedback on cleanliness.
The location is highly praised for its tranquility, beautiful scenery, and accessibility to walks and local amenities. It is considered a highlight and a strong reason for guests wanting to return.
Comfort is well-regarded, with the cottage being described as cosy and homely. However, there are comments about the need for better mattresses and more hot water, suggesting room for improvement in this area.
Facilities are generally appreciated, especially the well-equipped kitchen. Criticisms include the lack of a dishwasher and dryer, dated appliances, and the need for better fencing in the garden. Some updates are suggested to enhance the overall experience.
While guests mention appreciating certain amenities and surprises like washing up liquid and tea towels, there is insufficient information to assess the consistency of thoughtful gestures such as welcome packs or gifts. Therefore, a score cannot be provided.
Grisedale Cottage is a charming, three-bedroom holiday home set at the end of a short row of attractive, 19th century former mill workers' cottages in the village of Stair, near Braithwaite in Cumbria. It has been enhanced by a more recent extension. The cottage is set in walker’s paradise. Nestled attractively at the foot of Catbells and Causey Pike, it is within striking distance of some of the finest peaks in the Lake District. Easier walking, through the wonderful Newlands valley is also on the doorstep. It is three and a half miles to the bustling market town of Keswick and is well placed to tour this wonderful part of the world by car. Ideal for a family or two couples. Take a few steps up into the hallway and store and hang up your outdoor clothes. You will find a modern shower room. Walk into your lovely dual aspect, sitting room and your eyes will be drawn to the delightful, deeply set bay window. Admire the original ceiling beams, multi-fuel stove and comfortable suite before taking three steps up to your kitchen with dining area. This is also a dual aspect room with natural light pouring through the windows, giving the room a cheerful and welcoming ambience. Step out of the kitchen door onto the patio and explore your delightful, wooded gardens, mostly of lawn with mature trees and shrubs. Go back inside and climb the stairs to find three good-sized and comfortable bedrooms: a double bedroom with king size bed, a double bedroom, and a twin bedroom. A modern family bathroom has a bath with a separate shower. For an energetic day visit the Newlands Adventure Centre to try your hand at rock climbing, canoeing, ghyll scrambling or archery. Walk up Catbells, for panoramic views of shimmering Derwentwater. Take a leisurely stroll into the timeless Newlands Valley. Enjoy the riverside path to the well-loved Swinside Inn for a bar meal. Drive to Keswick to explore specialist shops, excellent restaurants, cafes, and pubs and much more. Magical Derwentwater lies just a ten-minute walk from the centre of town.
Between the magnificent northern lakes of Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite, lies the village of Braithwaite. Still retaining much of its traditional appeal, the Coledale Beck runs through the village with whitewashed Lakeland cottages, two village shops and two real ale Inns each brimming with character! Between Braithwaite and Buttermere is the beautiful Newlands Valley, while picturesque Bassenthwaite Lake is well worth a visit. From a gentle countryside ramble to a challenging hike up Skiddaw, there really is something for everyone. Visit Mirehouse, a grand house and gardens on the shores of the lake with an open-air theatre, or take a trip around the lake. Homely, comfortable, spacious and yet cosy and very calming , plenty of space and privacy for 6 adults. Loved breakfast outside, thunder rumbling in the hills, light and airy windows and really well thought out accommodation. Great to have the laundry changed mid stay and the lawn mower man! Only criticism we have is directed at Sykes. Pre booking we rang Sykes to enquire if the garden was completely secure for dogs as from the images it looked as if some of the fencing was too open and didn't have supporting mesh. The very kind chap said he would check and get back to us. He reported that it was 100% secure. On arrival it was clear that this wasn't the case. The ranch fencing at the front is far too open at the front and this is clearly stated in the property handbook. So that was frustrating, especially after paying the doggy surcharge. However property wise this is a real gem of a stay and we loved it.

Three out of five of us had never been to the Lake District so it was a complete new view - Beautiful. The cottage was so homely, comfortable and exactly what we needed to relax for a week away from daily stresses of work. Watching the different birds on the bird feeders was bonus. So excited to think about booking again for next year. Thank you
