Head for Keswick marina (0.5 miles) and cruise Derwentwater, or circle the perimeter on a 10-mile wildlife trail through wooded areas where you may encounter curious wildlife. For loftier hikes, try Skiddaw (4 miles), one of England’s highest mountains. On rest days, Keswick is packed with family-fun from the Theatre by the Lake and the town cinema to the interesting museums. Don’t miss the intriguing Castlerigg Stone Circle (1.5 miles), and stately Mirehouse on Bassenthwaite (5 miles). Or further afield, take a day trip to coastal Maryport 21 miles).
Enter the gated garden courtyard (which has shared access with the neighbouring property), and step up into the house, where you’ll find the charming galley kitchen, well-equipped for those home-cooked holiday feasts. Dine around the table, then sink into the sofas and enjoy family film nights together around the Smart TV with Freeview and DVD player.
