Harriet’s Hideaway is one of the six Pine Vale cottages in Seldom Seen, converted from a former water driven saw mill, dating back to the 1700’s. Situated at the foot of the beautiful Seldom Seen ravine, right next to the mountain stream Coombe Beck, in the village of Thornthwaite, this compact mid-terraced holiday cottage with small kitchen/ dining area but good sized lounge and bedrooms lies just three miles west of Keswick, a truly idyllic location with views across to Skiddaw in one direction and the beginning of the Helvellyn range in the other. The cottage benefits from two double bedrooms and feels like the perfect home from home; additionally there are also chairs outside the front to be able to sit and relax. The area is great for both walking and cycling and lies on the lower slopes of Whinlatter, with many forest trails and mountain bike tracks. There is a gallery and tea room 100 yards from the cottage (open throughout the year apart from January) and a shop, pubs and restaurants are one mile away in the village of Braithwaite. The vibrant market town of Keswick has a wealth of amenities, a total contrast to the peace and tranquillity at Harriet’s Hideaway. Note those with limited mobility may find the stairs a little steep.

Holiday was lovely cottage in a beautiful spot.The cottage was cosy could have had more utensils in kitchen .we would recomendA door mat when entering to wipe your feet .towels had seen better days .but this did not spoil our stay .Would go again .

Harriets Hideaway is a lovely little cottage, let down by poor maintenance and cleaning. Had to contact Cottages.com the first day, condensation and mould issues in bathroom, tap not working and bath not draining. Maintenance came out, fixed specifics but did not follow up on inadequate extractor fan. Generally dusty, cupboard under stairs containing laundry smelt. Sink plughole full of black hair. Needs serious TLC

Although the information stated a private bench there was not one, the picture shows a bench but that belongs to the house next door. There was a stack of chairs but nowhere to put them as you park directly in front of the door so there is no outdoor space to speak of. That said, there's plenty of outdoor space in the Lake District, oodles of it. The cottage is lovely but mind the stairs, I fell down them and broke my foot. Luckily it was as we were packing up so I'd had a lovely holiday first. Apologies to the owners as we didn't empty the fridge, kinda forgot about that what with the whole falling down the stairs malarkey.
