. Mount Pleasant is the pièce de résistance of our larger properties in the Northern Lakes. It’s got it all, location, views, south facing, the finest quality, space, garden and pub nearby. Renovated and luxuriously refurbished, including sumptuous carpets, bespoke hand-built kitchen and stunning Victorian style family bathrooms, and situated in the village of Threlkeld with views in every direction, from St John’s in the Vale and Clough Head to the front and the mighty Blencathra towering behind. Built from slate with a brown hue, mined locally and unique to Threlkeld, this impressive detached house enjoys the sun all day long and has phenomenal views from every room. There are two cracking pubs in the village, one with a restaurant and one serving bar meals. Keswick is 3 miles and access to the M6 is only 15 minutes drive. For those travelling on public transport there are regular buses from Penrith train station which drop you right outside the property, and continue in to Keswick. A beautiful and extremely comfortable house in a delightful setting with fabulous views. We were a party of 6, 2 couples and 2 singles so the 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms were ideal. Very good pubs a stone's throw away and the local village café/tearoom was a treat. Excellent local walks and a bus stop right outside so we made good use of the regular buses to Keswick and a trip on the no. 77 is a must for scenic views. Parking slightly awkward with a car parked almost opposite the entire time but managed to fit 3 cars in fairly easily. House very quiet in that we all agreed you didn't hear others inside so walls must be thick although we didn't use the TVs in every room! Bedrooms, bathrooms and lounge very clean but a few crumbs and bits in kitchen cupboards slightly marred general impression of cleanliness. Kitchen definitely missing a few necessary basic items, particularly oven gloves, wooden spoons, whisk etc but very good supply of glasses, cutlery, plates, mugs etc. Towels in one room were frayed and only one bathroom had a bath/shower mat. No soap in any of bathrooms or kitchen. Two incidents of showers not draining were dealt with very promptly which was very good. Nice having outdoor space and especially the weather to use it daily! An excellent holiday enjoyed by all, thank you!

Mount Pleasant could easily be 5*, but it’s only 3* at present. It needs a thorough deep clean, some repairs, and some greater attention to detail when preparing for guests.Parking for 3 cars was challenging - mainly caused by parked vehicles on the road, opposite the entrance. The electric charger was brilliant.Downstairs toilet had no soap or towel in it, and broken toilet brush.Kitchen - left hand oven didn’t work, and lights over hob had a lot of bulbs not working. Floor needed mopping. Kitchen was well equipped, and easy to work in.First floor lounge - splendid views from all aspects. We moved the settee in front of the tv, and there were dead flies and food underneath it. Cushion had stuffing coming out. Settees were comfortable, and the coffee table was great for cards and games. Bedroom on this floor had filthy shower head in the en-suite, used tissues under the bed, and clothing left in the wardrobe. The bed was very declared comfy. On the second floor, one twin bedroom had no towels in it. The en-suite in the double room had a dirty shower tray, and the drain was blocked, so we had to remove hair and gunge from it. Only one cup by sink. Broken toilet brush, which had been disguised by balancing the handle on the lid. Brush was disgusting. Throughout, there was a need to dust and polish, especially the beautiful period fireplaces. Whilst we would highly recommend Threlkeld as a base, with regular buses, and two cracking pubs, we would probably not book this property again, unless we were assured it had been cleaned and properly prepared for guests. A great shame, as it could be stunning!

Lovely village with 2 pubs and several walks from the doorstep. Also easy access to Keswick or Penrith via the bus - the bus top being outside the house. Mount Pleasant itself is spacious. We were a party of 4 adults and 2 dogs. Bathrooms are fitted out well, beds were comfy. Televisions in numerous rooms and the Internet worked fine. The house was clean and warm - the heating was easy to regulate.We had a great stay however there were a few issues which might be helpful to future guests;Our main criticism was the garden was not dog secure. We had two dogs - the smaller could easily get under the 5 bar gate and the medium sized dog could easily jump the adjoining stone wall - this meant we could not leave the dogs unattended for a minute as the house is next to a road. Both these issues could be sorted easily - a ‘picket fence’ or similar, to increase the height and mesh across the gap at the bottom. The house should have more basic kitchen items in our opinion. No scissors or small frying pan, and a lack of serving dishes for example. No washing up liquid, although dish washer tablets, scourer and tea towel were provided. Finally the Information provided on how to get to the house itself isn’t easy to follow. Mount Pleasant - which does have its name high on the white gable wall is roughly 50m from the village hall and a bus stop is located outside. the house. This information would have been useful, rather than the mention of it being on a ‘no through road’ - which isn’t signposted as you approach.
