Guests say

The Larches is a charming and spacious cottage in a peaceful village near Keswick, offering beautiful gardens, lovely views, and direct access to scenic walks. Guests appreciate its homely feel, well-equipped kitchen, and unique character, with frequent sightings of red squirrels and rabbits in the garden. While some found the property dated and noted minor maintenance and cleanliness issues, most enjoyed their stay and would recommend it for its location and atmosphere.

Reviews are mixed: several guests found the cottage clean and homely, while others reported cobwebs, spiders, and some kitchen and maintenance issues. One guest noted the property was spotless except for a cupboard visited by mice, while another found the house dirty and damp on arrival.

The location is highly praised for its tranquillity, beautiful views, and proximity to excellent walks. Guests enjoyed the peaceful village setting and easy access to Keswick and nearby attractions.

Most guests found the cottage comfortable and spacious, with good bedrooms and a welcoming atmosphere. However, there were some comments about uncomfortable beds and the garden being unsuitable for young children or those with mobility issues.

The cottage is generally well-equipped, with a good kitchen, dining area, and plenty of towels and incidentals. Some guests noted missing or outdated equipment, minor maintenance issues, and limited parking, but overall facilities were appreciated.

There is no mention of welcome gifts or special thoughtful touches in the reviews, so a score cannot be provided for this category.

We very much enjoyed our stay at The Larches, and hope to visit again. It is set in a quiet village with excellent walks. The garden viewing platforms are spectacular.Inside, the kitchen is well equipped, and there are lots of books and artworks to enjoy throughout the house. There is a generous supply of towels and incidentals, like washing up liquid and tissues. The drive is too steep to use, but we could park close up, with two wheels on the drive, side on. Shopping is done in Keswick. There is no pub in the village, but some in Braithwaite nearby..There is a cafe in the gallery nearby. We enjoyed seeing rabbits in the garden, but sadly no red squirrels! In the interest of fairness , we must mention that we didn't find the dvd and cd players that were listed as present. There were a few cds on a high shelf. Also, one cupboard, under the cooker had clearly been visited by mice. We removed and washed all the pans. A gap needs blocking up, and all will be well. We suspect we were probably the first guests for a while. We weren't bothered by this, as this is what can happen with country properties. It can soon be sorted, and the rest of the cottage was spotless. As I said, we would be delighted to visit again. One final comment to anyone bringing a pet. Pets are banned from the bedrooms and on the furniture. It might be helpful to know this in advance.
