Guests say

Thwaite Hill Cottage is a charming and cosy retreat in a peaceful location just outside Keswick, offering stunning views of Skiddaw and easy access to local walks and attractions. Guests consistently praise its comfortable lounge, well-equipped kitchen, and unique 'upside down' layout. The cottage is warm and homely, making it a welcoming base for exploring the Lake District. While some mention minor cleanliness and maintenance issues, as well as firm beds, the overall experience is highly positive, with many guests eager to return.

Most guests found the cottage clean and comfortable, but several reviews mention issues such as musty smells, cobwebs, and areas needing a deeper clean (e.g., kitchen equipment, utility room, outdoor furniture). These comments suggest cleanliness is generally good but could be improved.

The location is frequently described as excellent, peaceful, and ideal for walks, with beautiful views and close proximity to Keswick and Whinlatter Forest. Guests consistently highlight the setting as a major positive.

The cottage is widely regarded as cosy and comfortable, with effective heating and a welcoming atmosphere. However, some guests found the beds too firm or uncomfortable, and a few mentioned heavy duvets and dated bedding.

Facilities are generally well-received, with good kitchen equipment, Wi-Fi, central heating, and a log burner. Some guests noted minor maintenance issues (e.g., shower drainage, garden overgrowth, worn frying pan), but overall the cottage is well-equipped for a pleasant stay.

There are no mentions of welcome gifts or extra thoughtful touches. Some guests noted the absence of basic supplies like tea, coffee, or sugar, and highlighted that guests should bring their own essentials. Please note that gifts or supplies are not guaranteed.

We found the cottage to be musty and lacking freshness when we arrived but luckily this was solved after a day or two of opening windows and airing. One of the beds is very hard and could do with a topper. Not at all comfortable. Maybe some lighter weight duvets for summer, the ones on the beds are heavy and lumpy and seem very old. There was only one wine glass and one prosecco glass that was cracked. Only one frypan that has a badly damaged surface so everything sticks. The outdoor setting was filthy so we didn't use it. Utility room that has the washing machine needs a good clean. The location and upstairs living is very pleasant with lovely views and the garden is also lovely. Shame so many things let the place down.

Lovely location and very comfortable, bed in second bedroom was a little hard and needs a topper!, the “ dog friendly “ cottage’s rules for the dogs were vast and not very dog friendly, these “rules” should be made clear before you book as it was very stressful making sure that the cream carpet didn’t get wet dog prints on and trying to keep them out of the bedroom. Otherwise a lovely cottage for people without dogs 🐕
