About this property

Shap 1.2 miles. Located in the heart of Keld, a quaint village near Shap in Cumbria is White House, a charming, two-bedroom cottage. Resting upon the cusp of the Lake District National Park, enjoying rural views over the region, White House offers a characterful abode for a family of four, complete with a pretty garden, a private driveway, and a homely interior. Park up and unload your belongings, before travelling indoors to reach the sitting room; here you can unwind with the gentle glow of the woodburning stove in the backdrop. Locate the kitchen, well-equipped for a self-catered stay, where you can rustle up delicious meals to be enjoyed in the dining room, featuring traditional, antique furniture, and a roaring open fire. If the weather allows, dine alfresco in the delightful garden, dotted with beautiful blooms and luscious lawns, before climbing up to the elevated lawned area for vistas across the valley. Retire indoors to catch some rest from one of two well-appointed bedrooms, including a twin, and a double with electric fire and en-suite shower room. Indulge in a long soak in the roll-top bath, providing plenty of space to complete your morning routine, before heading into nearby Shap to stock up on the essentials and dine out, with the Crown Inn at Shap, The Abbey Kitchen, and The Greyhound Hotel, Bar & Restaurant in the area. Be sure to tour the remains of Shap Abbey whilst remaining local before travelling through the national park to enjoy an afternoon of watersports upon Ullswater, or a nature-filled hike towards Aira Force Waterfall. Keen birdwatchers will relish in the chance to visit The RSPB at Haweswater, whilst explorers will enjoy touring the Rydal Cave and the Stock Ghyll Force, worth packing your walking boots for; Wordsworth Grasmere and the Allan Bank and Grasmere country house are also nearby for history fans to enjoy. Round off your travels with a visit to Lake Windermere and its plethora of attractions where you can visit the Holehird Gardens, take to the lake by kayaking or canoeing at the Brockhole on Windermere centre, or enjoying the immersive experience of The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction, plus many more popular landmarks and activities. Gather your loved ones for a Cumbrian haven at White House.

This charming, linear village is located in the remote dales of Cumbria's Eden area. This tiny community is made up of a row of houses from the 18th century, as well as a swimming pool, bars, stores, a Post Office, and a beautiful memorial park. Shap Abbey, which is located half a mile from the village core and is surrounded by a magnificent setting by the River Lowther, was last ruled by Henry viii in 1540. The stunning Lake District National Park is close by, and the charming towns of Ambleside and Windermere are also accessible.

Loved the secluded location. Great spot for exploring the lakes and places further afield like Hadrians Wall. Can not fault it at all. I’m sure we will return in the future.

It is a lovely old period property in a very quiet location. Good base for visiting the area. Be prepared for a half hour walk to the nearest shop and pub. You can walk over the fields on the public footpaths or down the quiet country roads (no footpaths). The garden is nicely maintained (secure for dogs too) and the summer house is a perfect place to relax with a glass of wine and a good book. The house is warm and cozy. If you like oldy worldy and somewhere with a bit of character then you will enjoy your stay. I have to mention that the cleanliness is not up to scratch. We have dogs so our standards are a bit more relaxed than most but even we felt some aspects were unacceptable and will feed this back directly to Sykes.
