About this property

Set in an elevated area of Ambleside is Argyle Cottage. From the outside you will be impressed from its traditional cottage exterior but step inside and indulge in its modern contemporary interior with character touches. This is a wonderful property for families holidaying in the heart of the Lake District.

From the front of the property you can spot Loughrigg Fell in the distance, enter through the hall and into the dual aspect lounge with exposed beams, cosy woodburning stove, and dining area. The bright well-equipped kitchen has a slate floor and the luxury of a dishwasher. Upstairs there are three comfortable king-size bedrooms each with fabulous fell views.

Stroll down to the centre of Ambleside to sample the many indulgent cafes, local shops and a range of restaurants and bars. Just outside the centre you’ll find yourself at Waterhead Pier from here you can hop on a Lake Cruise to nearby Windermere and Lakeside where there are plenty of attractions including The World of Beatrix Potter and The Lakes Aquarium. Further afield The Langdales are only 2.5 miles from Ambleside, or head north to Grasmere and Keswick.

Perfectly located for discovering all that the Lakes has to offer; Argyle Cottage is an ideal spot for a break any time of the year.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

Small issue with parking close to property but we did manage to park at the top end of Chapel Hill after a day or so. Could do with an extract fan in down stairs bathroom.

The new beds were very comfortable. On arrival the cottage was cold but the heating thermostat, situated in the hall was very easy to understand and the place quickly warmed up. The evenings we were in were cosy with the wood burning stove. The cottage is minutes walk from the centre. Only major problem is parking. There are double yellow lines outside the cottage and nearby spaces permanently occupied. This wasn’t in the description and should be updated. We used the parking permit during the week but couldn’t park anywhere nearby when unloading and on departure. For this reason only I don’t think we’d stay here again, certainly not in high season dates.

Parking at Christmas real issue with parking as there are now double yellow lines outside cottage on both sides of road. Plus inconsiderate parking by others, locals and tourists completely blocked road forcing people to reverse up steep hill. Plus car park often full so a real issue. Only other thing is wood burner is missing part of the rope seal on door so is burning uncontrollably so we spent a fortune on logs. But the cottage was lovely. Unfortunately we would not stay again as parking is a real issue now with the yellow lines. We think that this should be mentioned in description. I have sent separate email and have photos of the above mentioned issues.
