Guests say

Hillside is a well-regarded cottage in Broughton-in-Furness, praised for its cleanliness, prime location, and comfortable amenities. Guests appreciate the proximity to local shops and pubs, as well as the beautiful garden. While some maintenance issues are noted, the overall experience is positive, with many guests planning return visits.

The property is consistently described as clean, with several reviews highlighting its spotlessness. However, a few minor comments about specific items not being clean suggest there is room for improvement.

The location is highly praised for its convenience, with amenities and scenic walks nearby. The village setting is appreciated for its charm and accessibility to local attractions.

Guests find the beds comfortable and the house welcoming. Some reviews mention issues with mattresses and suggest improvements, indicating that while comfort is generally high, there are areas that could be enhanced.

Facilities are generally good, with a well-equipped kitchen and garden. Criticisms focus on the games room and lack of Wi-Fi, which affect the overall satisfaction with the facilities provided.

While some guests mention welcome gifts and Christmas decorations, there is not enough consistent information about thoughtful touches or gifts to accurately assess this category. It should be noted that such gestures, while appreciated, are not guaranteed.

Location was great, parking was easy and you could get onto footpaths very easily from the front door without having to drive anywhere. The kitchen was fully equipped with everything that we needed to cook for 5 nights. There is plenty of living space downstairs (2 living rooms) including a dining room with a substantial table. The entrance hall was really big with plenty of space for a family's shoes, plus a coat rack. The back garden is lovely and fenced in so a great space to let the dogs out. At the back door there is another room for shoes/storage which was much appreciated as a family 'dumping ground'. Upstairs, 2 bathrooms and 3 bedrooms. The bed's were all comfortable and had lovely soft sheets with extra blankets available. This has been one of our favourite holiday houses as it has been really well thought out, we had everything we needed and we'd definitely stay again. (I can't comment on Sykes as a company, as apart from booking online, we had no dealings with them.)

House has two large lounges and three large bedrooms, so plenty of room for all of us and two dogs! House was clean, most of the beds were comfortable apart from the double bed in the second bedroom, which is ready for a new mattress. Also the mattresses on the single beds were obviously summer quilts and weren’t suitable for the cold weather we had and had to be topped up with blankets which were available. Some updating of the pipe work and plumbing required in the back porch required as water appears to be leaking after use of showers and bath. Otherwise we had a very enjoyable stay and would go there again as location is great and handy for the local pub and lovely walks nearby.

Size and location are lovely however, this year we had a couple of disappointments, The fire starter packs were very minimal this year compared to last year. It felt as though a previous tenant had left some logs and this had been split between the two rooms. We've also also had tea, coffee, sugar and milk left previously but not this year. We couldn't get the bottom cooker to work and there's no manual to tell you how to work it. Not sure if it's broken or we just couldn't figure it out. Worst of all was the smell of sewage that kept emanating around the house, the ensuite toilet was the worst with smells also coming from both showers plug areas when used, both shower trays took a little while to drain - we dud text the landlord but got no reply. We do usually enjoy staying here, it is a lovely location and the locals are very friendly. The Old King's Head does lovely food. The house this time, felt like it's been a bit neglected, drain smell, a leaking pipe out the back in the extension part. The information left for tenants is quite out of date. The tv remote for the tv in the room with floorboards doesn't work properly. Just needs a bit of tlc and information updating.
