Kendal, the Southern Gateway to the Lakes, is a mediaeval market town with a good reputation for shopping. It is located on the banks of the River Kent. The stone ruins of 12th century Kendal Castle lie poised on a hill with views over the town, and its old cobbled roads and byways branch off the picturesque main street. Visit The Abbot Hall Art Gallery, which has a regular collection of portraits by George Romney, a Kendal native, as well as works by Turner and Ruskin, as well as other shows thanks to its connections with the Tate. Sizergh Castle and Levens Hall, with its fantastic Topiary Garden, are both close by, as are limestone escarpments with breathtaking views of the Lakeland Mountains, the Howgills, and Morecambe Bay. South Lakeland, the Yorkshire Dales, and beyond are all easily accessible from Kendal. Kendal is an excellent base for a quiet stay, with attractions such as Kendal Museum and the Museum of Lakeland Life, the interesting Quaker Tapestry, Lake Windermere, and the larger National Park all within easy reach.

The apartment is beautiful, a mix of modern and old. It is light, spacious, clean and freshly decorated. The bedroom in the roof space is an amazing feature, a real âwowâ moment when you walk in. There are a few disappointments. One, the alleyway down to the main entrance of the apartments is dirty and crowded with wheelie bins that stink. The stairs upto the apartment are also in need of a thorough clean and there is a stuffy smell of damp close to the entrance door. Parking is difficult, so I would recommend you pre-book a space via âJust Parkâ. Despite a few disappointing features I would definitely stay at 3 Old Pharmacy Court again and would highly recommend it. It really is a beautiful apartment.

The quality of the accommodation, equipment and facilities are of a very high standard. The apartment is extremely clean and well maintained. Fantastic location and proximity to the Lake District. We cannot fault this accommodation at all and hope to be rebooking soon. Just one small suggestion we find the kitchen table a wee bit small and would recommend a drop leaf table or a further fold up table which could be stored in the cupboard or under the sofa. We look forward to coming back soon.

Therefore within a stoneâs throw of shops and numerous restaurants and pubs. Parking fairly easy at reasonable long term rates in Dowker Street Car Park which is right behind the property. Everything clean and functional although agree with reviewer who pointed out lack of blinds/curtains in sitting room and especially bathroom seems a little incongruous. Also worth pointing out 1. A scaffold to the front is present at the moment. This had no effect as no work was in progress but might make the lack of window blinds acute were work to be conducted 2. Access is by 39 steps which might challenge the less mobile. Probably not possible to make adjustments. 3. Recycling restricted to cardboard and paper although there are other places nearby that can accommodate this need Would book again if only because location is unbeatable and the property is clean, well-equipped and of some charm.
