Kingfisher Barn in Kendal offers a comfortable stay with its spacious rooms and modern kitchen. Guests appreciate the property's proximity to local amenities and scenic walks. While some minor maintenance issues and cleanliness concerns are noted, the overall experience is positive, with the property's charm and location being standout features.
Cleanliness is generally good, with several reviews mentioning the property being clean and well-prepared for guests. However, there are some reports of cobwebs, dirty crockery, and insect carcasses, suggesting room for improvement in thoroughness.
The location is highly praised for its convenience to local shops, pubs, and beautiful walks. The village of Staveley is well-regarded, and the proximity to Windermere and Kendal is a plus. Parking concerns are noted but do not detract significantly from the overall positive feedback on location.
Comfort is a strong point, with many guests finding the beds super comfortable and the living spaces cosy. Some concerns about headroom in the bathroom and the suitability of the shower for taller individuals are mentioned, slightly affecting the comfort score.
Facilities are generally well-received, with a well-equipped kitchen and comfortable lounge area. However, there are several comments about maintenance issues such as non-working bulbs, missing cupboard doors, and the need for updates. The lack of Wi-Fi and issues with wasps also impact this score.
There is insufficient information to assess thoughtfulness as it relates to gifts or special touches provided by the host. While some guests mention complimentary kitchen essentials, it is not clear if this is a standard practice or a one-off occurrence.
A delightful first and second floor apartment in an enviable position on the outskirts of the popular and picturesque village of Staveley in the beautiful Lake District National Park. Well-furnished throughout, the apartment is perfectly placed to explore the surrounding towns and villages with an abundance of low level walks directly from the door. There are two double bedrooms, a family bathroom and a modern kitchen with a Juliet balcony that looks out over the mill race and beyond to the Kentmere valley and fells. The cosy sitting area has a high ceiling with exposed beams and an electric fire. Staveley village boasts a well-stocked shop, a newsagent and Post Office, local butcher, chemist and a pub serving excellent food.
Explore the local town of Kendal with its independent retailers, restaurants and bars as well as a selection of museums and Kendal Arts Centre which offers a cinema and various live performances. The popular towns of Bowness-on-Windermere, Ambleside and Keswick are all easily accessible by car or bus, or you can enjoy a gentle stroll along the River Kent to the Mill Yard, whilst the more energetic can pack a picnic and head for the Kentmere Horseshoe circular walk. There really is something for everyone to enjoy at this beautiful Lake District holiday home.
Staveley is situated between Kendal and Windermere and has gained a reputation as the Gateway to the Lakes. It is mainly comprised of picturesque, grey slate buildings, sandwiched between the rivers Kent and Gowan. This once forested area was grazed as early as 4000BC. Iron Age farmers settled first and were followed by the English and Scandinavians and evidence of these early civilizations can be found throughout the region. The village has an excellent range of amenities including a variety of shops, two pubs, craft shops and a railway station. Nearby, Windermere and Ambleside offer a number of attractions such as boat trips on Lake Windemere and a ferry to the Lakeside Aquarium and Grizedale Forest Park.

Everything was spotless and in good working order. We enjoyed it so much we decided to to book another stay later in the year (unfortunately the day before the discount code from Sykes arrived). We would definitely recommend this property, especially if you have a four legged friend.

The cottage is spacious, the beds and seating are comfortable, there are all the facilities you could need. Tall people need to watch your head in places in the bathroom upstairs but the downstairs cloakroom is very handy. There's loads of info on lake district attractions, cycle routes etc, some guide maps of local walks would have been handy but it's easy enough to follow the signposts, we took the short route to the top of Reston Scar, signposted up the hill on the other side of the river accross the bridge, fabulous views from the top, also lovely walks along the river.
