There are many pleasant inns, teashops, guest houses and gift shops in the village, as well as the Beatrix Potter Gallery, which houses an annually changing exhibition of the famous author’s illustrations and stories. The other famous Hawkshead enthusiast, William Wordsworth, attended the Old Grammar School in 1779-87, which still stands today, and you can visit the building where the Lakeland poet developed his love of the form, and even see the desk into which he scratched his name as a small boy! We bumped into owners who were also lovely and gave some great local knowledge for dog walks in the area. Would definitely come back and I never stay places twice. Was such a fab stay.

We really couldn't have asked for more and it was lovely to walk into the cottage and see how beautifully it had been decorated for Christmas, which was a lovely touch. The cottage is "genuinely" dog friendly and there was no list of rules which is often the case for cottages that purport to be dog friendly. It was perfect for our two active spaniels (the utility/boot room was perfect when returning home from walks with muddy boots and dogs!) I previously read a review about how well stocked the kitchen is and they weren't wrong - we regularly stay in holiday cottages and this was by far the best in relation to the kitchen equipment that is provided and the quality of appliances. The owners were also beyond generous with what they supplied in relation to cleaning/laundry products, coffee beans etc - the even left Christmas themed serviettes for us and a bottle of wine! The cottage was a great place to spend Christmas because it was so cosy and comfortable and situated in a lovely village with so much to do on our doorstep. Finally, we were fortunate enough to meet the owners who are really lovely people and wanted to ensure our stay was perfect. A big thank you for a wonderful, memorable Christmas

It was lovely to stay in a house that had been decorated as a whole rather than have a mixture of furnishings. The kitchen was modern & had a great hob, oven & dishwasher & every utensil you could think of along with ample crockery & cutlery. The lounge & dining area had matching very comfortable sofas, a large smart tv. The bedroom we used at the front had a very comfortable bed. The enclosed garden area was perfect for our dogs. The location is right in the centre of Hawkshead which is so convenient for the shops & pubs but felt tucked away from any noise.
