Guests say

Cross Brow Cottage in Ambleside is praised for its ideal location, beautiful gardens, and spacious, well-equipped interiors. Guests appreciate the en-suite bedrooms and the property's proximity to town amenities. While some minor maintenance issues and a lack of welcome gifts are noted, the overall experience is highly regarded, with many guests expressing a desire to return.

The property is consistently described as clean and well-maintained, with several reviews commending its immaculate condition. Only one mention of a smell from cleaning chemicals slightly detracts from an otherwise excellent cleanliness record.

The location is highly praised for being peaceful, private, and close to the centre of Ambleside, with easy access to local attractions and walks. It is considered one of the property's strongest points.

The property is generally found to be comfortable, with positive remarks about the bedrooms and bathrooms. However, some guests mention that the living room furniture and mattresses could be improved for enhanced comfort.

Facilities are well-regarded, especially the well-stocked kitchen and multiple bathrooms. Some reviews, however, point out issues such as inconsistent hot water, a broken zip on a sofa cushion, and a desire for a smart TV, suggesting room for improvement in maintenance.

While guests mention the absence of a welcome pack, which is unusual for the property's price point, there is not enough information to assess the overall thoughtfulness of the host in terms of providing gifts or extra touches that enhance the guest experience.

Location

Just a couple of minutes' stroll from the heart of the village, this fabulous Ambleside self-catering accommodation enjoys the best of both worlds in a popular location. Easy access to the entertainments and facilities of Ambleside village, yet peaceful surroundings and direct access to walks and cycle rides in abundance. Ambleside is a historic Lakeland village on the northern shores of Lake Windermere. The pretty streets are scattered with traditional Lake District cottages and historic buildings, but also packed with sophisticated shops and a very high standard of cafes, pubs and acclaimed Lake District restaurants. There are also two cinemas - perfect for those rainy days!

Stroll to Waterhead Pier, just outside the village centre, and you can take a Windermere Lake Cruise to explore Bowness or Lakeside - a great way for the family to explore without any stressful car journeys! There are several historic attractions in Ambleside - the Armitt museum takes a peek into the industrial history of the area, and one of William Wordsworth's family homes can be visited nearby at Rydal Mount & Gardens.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

I feel it lacked Christmas spirit as there was no tree or decorations and this was missed by us Other than that this house was perfect for us

Spacious enough to easily accommodate three couples in comfort, with the bedrooms being roughly the same size, so no real fight over which one each couple had! The previous reviewer's criticism we read about the towels has clearly been addressed too, as they were lovely and fluffy...

The house and gardens are immaculate. The property is very comfortable. Four bathrooms was a definite plus. We were a party of five adults, including both my parents who are in their nineties. There was no mention of the many steps down to the property from the parking place and they struggled with these. These steps should be mentioned in the property description.
