Guests say

Cross Brow Cottage in Ambleside is highly praised for its prime location, spaciousness, and beautiful gardens. Guests appreciate the well-equipped kitchen, comfortable bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, and the property's proximity to local amenities. While some minor maintenance issues and a lack of welcome pack are noted, the overall experience is positive, with many guests expressing a desire to return.

The property is consistently described as clean and well-maintained, with guests commending the cleanliness upon arrival. Only one mention of a smell from cleaning chemicals slightly detracts from an otherwise pristine reputation.

The location is highly praised for being peaceful, private, and close to the town centre, with easy access to local attractions and walks. It is considered a major highlight of the property.

The property is generally found to be comfortable, especially the bedrooms and bathrooms. However, some guests mention that the living room furniture and mattresses could be improved for better comfort.

Facilities are well-regarded, particularly the kitchen and bathrooms. Some guests mention minor maintenance issues such as leaky showers and broken zips on sofa cushions, suggesting room for improvement.

While guests have noted the absence of a welcome pack, which is unusual for the property's price point, there are no consistent comments on other thoughtful touches or gifts to accurately assess this category.

About this property

Moments from the heart of Ambleside and a short stroll from Lake Windermere and Waterhead Pier, this traditional whitewashed farmhouse has been refurbished to the highest standard. Two stunning sitting rooms with wood burning stoves, three glorious bedrooms and numerous bath and shower rooms make this an exceptional property for a family or groups of friends.

Cross Brow is wrapped by stunning lawned gardens, patios and terraces. Sitting areas are peppered around the farmhouse, and there are wonderful views in every direction. On arrival guests will find private parking for three, or four carefully parked vehicles. The first of two sitting rooms is a delight with its large windows over the gardens and traditional stone fireplace with wood burning stove. Large leather sofas are clustered round the fire, perfect for an evening of relaxation or afternoon nap. Light floods into this spacious room, which includes a large dining table and chairs. An absolutely stunning living space. The second, more intimate sitting room also has a wood burning stove and is the perfect spot in which to enjoy a coffee and browse the morning papers. Through to the magnificent kitchen with beamed ceiling and granite work tops. An elegant breakfast bar is guaranteed to be a popular spot for enjoying a glass of wine while chatting to the chef of the day. Velux windows, door to the garden and picture windows make for another bright space in this extraordinary farmhouse. Upstairs are the three superb bedrooms, two with en-suites, a house bathroom and separate shower room. Plenty of room for everyone.

This property offers the best everything. Easy access to Ambleside with its wonderful restaurants, shops, cinemas and jazz bar, Waterhead Pier and cruises along the lake and seemingly endless choice of walking routes around Tarn Hows, Hawkshead and Windermere. There will be few properties to match Cross Brow.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

The house and gardens are immaculate. The property is very comfortable. Four bathrooms was a definite plus. We were a party of five adults, including both my parents who are in their nineties. There was no mention of the many steps down to the property from the parking place and they struggled with these. These steps should be mentioned in the property description.

Easy access to great walks from the doorstep or a short drive away. We did 5 different walks over the week we were there and loved them all. Accommodation was perfect for our needs - a modern open plan lay out with everything you could need during your stay. I just wish it was mine.

Seriously the photos don’t do it justice! We were totally blown away when we arrived and very happy we chose this place. The house and gardens are just beautiful, everything in the house is top quality and you can tell that’s it’s well looked after! The facilities are excellent and the beds, well they are so comfy and we all slept so well! The fluffiest bathroom towels and nice little finishing touches throughout! Would we stay again, most definitely, I seriously can’t recommend this place enough!
