Old Ambleside House receives glowing reviews for its beautiful decor, spaciousness, and practicality. Guests appreciate the well-equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, and en-suite bathrooms. Its central location in Ambleside is praised for convenience to shops and attractions. While some mention noise and parking challenges, the overall sentiment is highly positive, with many eager to return.

The central location in Ambleside is highly valued for its proximity to local amenities and as a base for exploring the Lake District. However, some guests noted noise from the street and nearby pub deliveries, slightly impacting the score.
Guests find the house comfortable, with luxurious fittings, quality bed linen, and welcoming sofas. The presence of en-suite bathrooms adds to the comfort. A few comments about the property being too warm and noise from outside suggest minor comfort issues for some.
The property is praised for its well-equipped kitchen and luxurious fixtures. However, there are remarks about parking difficulties and one mention of a broken shower fan, indicating some room for improvement in facilities and maintenance.
Many reviews express gratitude for the welcome basket and festive decorations, reflecting a thoughtful touch by the hosts. It's important to note that such personal touches, while appreciated, may vary and are not guaranteed for every stay.
Luxurious Old Ambleside House is a holiday home with the ‘wow factor’, and then some. Each and every room is breath-taking, with no detail overlooked. This is a property in which to hold a landmark celebration or enjoy an incredible holiday with very special friends and family.
On entering the house an impressive hallway leads to three ground floor bedrooms, while stairs lead up to the stunning living accommodation and final bedroom. Beginning downstairs, there are two fabulous king size rooms and sophisticated twin, each having a smart TV and designer en-suite shower room. The bedrooms come with choice of goose down or non-allergic duvets, as well as a Sonos Music system and charging points for mobiles and iPads.
Moving to the first floor, the living space is sensational. Deep cushioned sofas and enormous armchairs are the perfect setting in which to enjoy the large smart TV offering Sky and Sky Sports, while the designer dining table and matching chairs are an elegant setting for the finest of dinner parties. Speaking of which, the kitchen to die for. The Smeg oven is a delight, the fitted cupboards are modern and bright, and the worktops, flooring and fittings of the highest quality. There will be no shortage of volunteers wishing to help prepare a delicious breakfast or gourmet evening meal in here.
Ambleside is located at the northern tip of Lake Windermere and is one of the Lake District’s most sophisticated villages. Around every corner guests will find award-winning restaurants and gorgeous boutiques. Cosy Lakeland pubs as well as quirky independent cinemas, a highly regarded pizzeria and jazz bar. Everything needed to round off a perfect day in the glorious Lake District countryside.
Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

Not so good points: Toilets and bathrooms were generally not clean on arrival. The baths had not been wiped around and the loos had not been properly cleaned (under the seats, rims etc) we contacted Tracy and she came in the next morning and cleaned them, she apologised profusely. However the baths were still not done after this was rectified. One ensuite the shower couldn't be used due to the fan being broken so dirty water streaks were all down the walls. We didn't expect to have to strip beds before we left, prior warning at the time of booking would have been appreciated for this, as leaving early morning for a long drive home was marred by stripping all the beds which to be frank should be included in the housekeeping when you pay a premium for a nice property and get away from household chores in holiday. The pub deliveries were very noisy in the early hours most days including the bottle emptying at 5.30am which wasn't great. The TV channels were a little sporadic but we managed to watch most of Wimbledon! Generally we had a lovely stay in the house. Would we visit again to the same property? unfortunately not, house keeping issues I'm afraid put us off and the noise from the pub deliveries were frustrating as we like to go away to not have to be woken at the crack of dawn and/or to be stripping beds and cleaning our loos!

The cottage was exactly as described and in the perfect location for exploring Ambleside and the surrounding areas. We would definitely stay again and recommend to others looking to visit The Lakes.
