Dixon Court in Ambleside is a well-received apartment, praised for its spaciousness, ideal location, and beautiful views. Guests appreciate the well-equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, and the bonus of a sauna. The property's proximity to local amenities and the countryside makes it a fantastic base for exploring. While some minor maintenance issues and the lack of a toilet on the living area floor have been noted, the overall experience is very positive, with many guests expressing a desire to return.
Most guests found Dixon Court to be exceptionally clean. However, a few reviews mentioned areas where cleanliness could be improved, such as under the sofa and around the skirting. These appear to be isolated incidents rather than a general trend.
The location of Dixon Court is highly praised for being central in Ambleside, with easy access to shops, amenities, and the stunning countryside. The convenience of the location is a standout feature in the reviews.
Guests generally find the apartment comfortable, with ample space and cosy features like a log burning stove. Some guests mentioned that certain bedrooms were cold or that the lounge was a bit small for larger groups, but overall comfort levels are high.
The facilities at Dixon Court, including the sauna and well-equipped kitchen, are appreciated by guests. However, there are several mentions of maintenance issues such as exposed wires, non-working taps, and a broken dishwasher. These issues have slightly impacted the overall experience.
While guests have mentioned a welcome basket with tea and coffee, there is no consistent mention of gifts or additional thoughtful touches that would warrant a score in this category. Therefore, the score is set to null.
In the heart of Ambleside, amidst the breathtaking surroundings of the Lake District National Park, is Dixon Court, a spectacular three-story apartment.
Twelve visitors are invited to spend a fun-filled holiday at Dixons Court with their two four-legged friends in this stunning region of Cumbria.
It offers a wood-burning stove, an open-plan living room that is ideal for entertaining guests and spending quality time with loved ones, and parking in the lot next door.
Ascend to the first-floor terrace entrance area from the courtyard.
Once you pass through the front door, you will be on the first floor, where there is a spacious cloakroom and a family room with twin singles and a bunk bed in addition to three gorgeous bedrooms, including two king-size rooms.
You can get ready for the day in elegance or freshen up before going to the neighbourhood bar in this section, which also includes the main bathroom and additional WC. And what better way is there to unwind and relax after a day of exploration than in the sauna room.
A beautifully furnished open-plan sitting area with a Smart TV and a blazing wood stove can be found on the second floor, along with a well-equipped kitchen with a breakfast bar where you can prepare and serve delectable meals.
You may access the quaint alpine dining space and a ski-themed snug from the kitchen and living area that are open to one another.
Step outside the dining area onto the west balcony, where you can sit back and relax while admiring the stunning views of Loughrigg as the sun sets. A double bedroom with a vanity, a Juliet balcony, and a shower room comletes this floor, making it the perfect location to unwind and read a book.
You'll find everything you need in one room as you up the stairs to the third level, including a lovely attic king-size bedroom with an ensuite bathroom, a living space with a sofa, and a kitchenette area with coffee/tea making facilities.
If you can tear yourself away from this magnificent home, start your day with a fun activity for the whole family at White Platts Miniature Golf or the climbing wall at Ambleside (right next door), and then explore the town centre of Ambleside, where there are a tonne of places to stop for a satisfying lunch or a sweet treat.
Outside your door, take in the breathtaking beauty of Stock Ghyll Force waterfall, or see The Bridge House, a strange 17th-century structure that overlooks the River Rothay. Ambleside is a great place to base yourself if you want to explore the eastern fells of the Lake District.
Numerous hikes, both short and long, high and low, begin from this town. Why not schedule a Shampooch at the ground-floor dog grooming salon if you have planned a muddy excursion with your four-legged friend?
At the renowned Lake Windermere, just a short drive away, you can test your skills at a range of water sports, including paddleboarding and kayaking. Visit Wray Castle or The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction to relive your youth if you'd prefer to learn about history and literature. Why not reserve a table at one of Ambleside's Michelin-starred eateries, several of which are nearby? Because Orrest Head Viewpoint, Rydal Mount and Gardens, and Wordsworth Grasmere are all within easy driving distance from here, there will never be a shortage of things to do and see. For a unique escape, stay at Dixons Court any time of year.
Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

There are lots of stairs and rooms are on different levels, plus itâs a short walking distance from the car park, but we understood this when we booked. Close to the town centre and walking distance to shops and pubs which was ideal. We paid for the car park using the pay by phone app and some of us got the early bird, but other members of the party were charged full price and we couldnât figure out why. Only problem we had during our trip was the dishwasher wasnât working (we only realised this after weâd fully loaded it). Overall a lovey stay, really great space and the added bonus is the sauna. Thanks
Nicola
From the car park to the house as no toilet on the living area floor and outside steps to the property are steep! Some people may not manage this Perfect location in walking distance to main town. ! The car park does get busy just outside, others in walking distance though but would recommend to drop bags off first for ease! This time of year, heating didnât need to be on in all rooms! It was like a sauna without the sauna initially

The 9 of us had a great stay. The kitchen and the bathrooms were very good. Lots of space for wet weather gear and boots. Things that could be improved; the sofas in lounge and some of the beds need renewing soon. Bigger recycling bins outside would also be good.
