Guests say

Fairy Glen is a well-liked cottage in Grasmere, praised for its excellent location, spaciousness, and suitability for groups and families. Guests appreciate the well-stocked kitchen, ample parking, and pet-friendly policy. While some maintenance issues are noted, the property's charm, stunning views, and proximity to local amenities and walks are consistently highlighted as key positives.

Cleanliness has received mixed feedback. Some guests found the property spotless, while others reported cobwebs and cleanliness issues. The inconsistency in cleanliness standards has led to a slightly above average score.

The location is highly praised for its stunning views, proximity to Grasmere village, and accessibility to local walks and amenities. The convenience of a nearby bus stop is also appreciated, contributing to an excellent score.

Comfort is generally well-regarded, with guests finding the property warm and the beds comfortable. However, some guests mentioned uncomfortable sofas and chairs, and issues with heating regulation, leading to a good but not excellent score.

Facilities are adequate with a well-equipped kitchen and sufficient bathrooms. However, maintenance issues such as leaky showers, problematic heating, and worn furniture have been noted, resulting in a score that reflects room for improvement.

There is insufficient information to assess thoughtfulness as there are no mentions of gifts or special touches provided by the hosts. Therefore, this category cannot be scored.

Walks from the door are too many to mention with both rambles and high level peaks accessible.

Grasmere makes a splendid base for a holiday in any season and is always sought after being right in the heart of the lakes.

Make sure you visit the Wordsworth museum and Dove Cottage and see the local churchyard where Wordsworth is buried.

Rowing boats are available on Grasmere Lake in season - beautiful for a picnic on a sunny day.

Accommodation: The house is on three floors.

Front door entrance with room for jackets and boots leads into the welcoming hallway with rooms to either side.

The main sitting room to the left has plenty of comfy seating and an impressive wood burner to keep you cosy on the coldest nights (Flat screen TV and free wi-fi).

To the right of the hallway is the open plan kitchen/dining room with wood burning stove, bay window and TV.

Extra comfy seating makes this a very sociable space, perfect for family gathering, relaxed dining and socialising.

The rear hallway beyond the kitchen has a separate second kitchen utility room, store room and more hanging space.

Leading off the main kitchen, step lead down into cellar opened up as a sung with bean bags and fairy lights, not to mention the 9 foot deep glass covered well.

Back door to small rear yard.

The first floor has four bedrooms, three king size all have character oak bedsteads and stylish en-suite shower rooms whilst the twin has use of the family shower room on the split landing.

All bedrooms have good views to fells and village.

The master bedroom with king-sized oak bed is on the top floor with feature beams, some sloping roof lines, dressing area and an en-suite with roll-top bath, separate shower, basin and wc.

Fairy Glen has a welcoming feel with lots of home comforts, original stripped floors with rugs, stylish modern bathrooms throughout and gas central heating.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

Beautiful home with all the facilities you could need. Close to the centre of Grasmere and the bus network to get you around the lakes. Garden is well maintained and secure for dogs. Negatives. The house sleeps 10 adults yet there is only 9 large dinner plates! The sofas in the lounge are so uncomfortable with the one being held up with wooden planks. This meant we ended up going to bed very early as also the dinning room chairs were the most uncomfortable I have ever sat on. 2 of the en suite showers did not drain so could not be used. I did contact Sykes but had no response. The heating system has a mind of its own. The car park space fits 3 cars at a squeeze. The one bed was like sleeping on a plank of wood. The bath although beautiful cannot be used unless you are a child as there is no headroom to get in and out of it. The oven in the main kitchen cannot be used to its full capacity as half the oven did not work. There was no grill pan and there are missing knobs for all the gas hob. No instructions found so had to Google how to use it. The windows in the loft cannot be opened and when able to they shut on their own. There is a photo of a basement area but the door to this was locked. It is such a shame as the house is stunning and so is grasmere and we all loved our week there. But unfortunately would not book again.

We stayed in September '24, the gardens are well maintained, secluded and dog safe. Off-road parking was easy and convenient. The house is beautiful and retains its Victorian features. We found the beds were very comfy. The kitchen is well appointed with a range style oven, a microwave and a slow cooker, plus a second modern oven in rear utility area, a full sized fridge/freezer, washing machine and separate dryer. Ample space for coats and boots. A 2 minute walk down to the village takes you to a well stocked, friendly Co-op store and a range of local independent shops and cafes, while 2 minutes up the road is the The Swan pub. Good local bus route links to surrounding towns inc. Ambleside, Windemere, Keswick. The cellar is beautiful, containing a unique spring water well feature - keys appropriately hung above the door out of reach from children. Lots of useful local information provided in sideboard drawers (local events, attractions, bus timetables), along with Ordnance survey maps, and guides for walks, cycling, motoring, whatever you need. Thank you for a lovely holiday, will come again.

Well stocked kitchen and washer and dryer were a plus for when it rained. The broken bench was replaced while we were there which good and the gap in the garden was filled with a new bench also. Our dogs are too old to try escaping under a bench but maybe at some point it would be a good idea to fill the gap with a bit of fencing? An enclosed garden is the holy grail of holiday cottages for dog owners....There were 9 of us and plenty of room for everyone to be comfortable. A truly gorgeous house in a stunning setting.
