Ghyll Heights is a well-situated cottage in Ambleside, praised for its spaciousness, comfortable beds, and luxurious touches. Guests appreciate the well-equipped kitchen and the property's proximity to town, despite a steep hill. The scenic location by Stock Ghyll and the convenience for exploring the Lake District are highlights, with some guests enjoying the sound of nearby waterfalls.
Cleanliness receives mixed reviews, with several guests noting areas for improvement, particularly in the kitchen and dining chairs. However, others found the property to be clean and tidy, suggesting that while generally good, there is room for more consistent standards.
The location is highly praised for its proximity to Ambleside and local attractions, with the convenience for exploring the Lake District being a significant plus. The picturesque setting next to a stream adds to the charm, although the steep walk to town may challenge some.
Comfort is well-regarded, with guests frequently mentioning the comfortable beds and cosy atmosphere. The presence of en-suite bathrooms and spacious rooms contribute to a comfortable stay, although some guests noted the lounge could be updated for added comfort.
Facilities are generally appreciated, especially the well-stocked kitchen and the inclusion of a washing machine and dishwasher. However, there are comments about maintenance issues such as a musty smell in the lower bedroom, a non-functional balcony, and some dated aspects of the property.
While some guests mention a welcome pack with basic cleaning supplies, there is insufficient information on whether gifts or additional thoughtful touches are consistently provided to guests. Therefore, a score cannot be accurately given for thoughtfulness.
This modern riverside cottage, part of the contemporary Falls development, stands alongside Stockghyll Waterfalls and enjoys fabulous views from its own private balcony. The property is just minutes from the heart of vibrant Ambleside with its host of restaurants, outdoor shops and boutiques. Zeffirellis cinema, pizzeria and jazz bar is a treat not to be missed, and the adorable house on the bridge offers a lovely photo opportunity.
A short stroll from the village and you will reach Waterhead and Lake Windermere. Guests cannot miss the opportunity to take a cruise across the water to Bowness or Lakeside. The picturesque village of Hawkshead is a short drive away, with Hill Top and the Grizedale Forest a little further on. A car ferry crosses back to Bowness making the perfect route around the lake.
This property is beautifully presented and having two large bedrooms with private bathrooms, ideal for two couples sharing or a small family group. Ghyll Heights is arranged over three floors. On the lower floor is a lovely king size room and bathroom. A separate dressing room adds an element of luxury, and the outlook is charming. The entrance hall leads to the main living area and balcony with a view over the nearby waterfall. The kitchen is modern and well-equipped with everything needed to conjure up a hearty breakfast or evening meal. Upstairs again to the second of the two king size rooms with en-suite bathroom. Total privacy in a charming location.
Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

It was extremely cosy, comfortable and clean, and also very well equipped. It is just a short stroll down into Ambleside, and the cottage is in a scenic location by Stock Ghyll, with fell walks from the doorstep. We particularly enjoyed a walk to Grassmere along the âcoffin trailâ and Freshers Cafe in town. We will return!
