Striding Home is a well-kept, spacious property with stunning views, ideally situated in Ambleside. Guests appreciate the ample parking, well-equipped kitchen, and the extra space for socialising and storage. The property's cleanliness and comfort are generally praised, with some minor maintenance issues noted.
The property is frequently described as clean and well-kept, with only a few isolated comments on specific areas needing more attention. The majority of guests found the cleanliness to their satisfaction.
The location is highly praised for its proximity to local amenities, stunning views, and accessibility to walks and the lake. It is considered a prime spot in Ambleside, contributing to a positive experience.
Comfort is generally well-regarded, especially the beds in the main bedrooms. However, some guests mentioned issues with creaky floorboards, uncomfortable sofas, and an uncomfortable mattress in one of the rooms.
Facilities are appreciated, particularly the kitchen and dining areas. However, there are recurring comments on maintenance issues such as problematic showers, stiff doors, and outdated appliances, suggesting room for improvement.
While some guests missed a welcome pack and suggested that the addition of small amenities would enhance the experience, there is not enough consistent information on thoughtful touches or gifts to provide a score.
A spacious split-level detached house in a quiet residential area on the outskirts of Ambleside. Striding Home is tastefully and comfortably furnished. The house has large windows and a light and sunny aspect with a welcoming holiday feel. It has good south and westerly views to the fells and mountains with Lake Windermere in the valley below. The garden backs onto open fields with Wansfell behind. Ambleside village centre is within easy walking distance. Lake cruises can be enjoyed on Windermere and with many walks in the area there is very little need to use the car on a daily basis.
Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

Really good for local walks and easy to get into town. The house was in a good location with plenty of room with decent parking. Beds really comfy & the bathrooms were pleasant/clean too. The laundry room was handy for hanging wet walking gear to dry. The only disappointment was that the wood burner/fire place was out of use. Also the house could do with a few more kitchen utensils / pans. Many thanks, Matt (Sheffield)

Kitted out with everything we needed. We really appreciated the great space for our family to all be seated together in one room. Parking was an added bonus. Ambleside 5 mins walk and Wansfell Pike on the doorstep, too! Lots of walking maps and information on the area which really helped our holiday run smoothly. The only problem we had was turning off the upstairs shower. Also, there was no welcome pack on arrival but that seems to be normal with Sykes Cottages, which is a shame. Thank you to the owners for letting us stay in their wonderful home. We would definitely recommend and will return!!

Good quiet, location and walkable to Ambleside. We enjoyed our stay and appreciated the maps and games. A couple of minor things: I had to clean black gunk off downstairs family bathroom shower head and the washing machine needs some strong washing machine cleaner. I Put it on a 90 to clean it a bit before using it. Slate paving in garden needs repairing and tall trees really block sun and views at the back and could easily be cut back to improve this.
