Swirl How is a well-regarded cottage in Ambleside, praised for its cleanliness, stunning views, and comfortable furnishings. Guests appreciate the well-equipped kitchen, cosy living areas, and the thoughtful touches like hot water bottles and walking sticks. While the steep driveway and hill access are noted, the property's charm and amenities seem to more than compensate.
The property consistently receives high praise for its cleanliness, with guests noting it as 'very clean and tidy' and 'cleaned to a high standard'. One mention of cobwebs suggests a minor oversight, but overall, the property is maintained with excellent cleanliness.
The location is highly valued for its beautiful views and proximity to local amenities. The elevated position provides scenic vistas, though the steep hill is noted. Its central location in Ambleside is ideal for exploring the Lake District.
Guests find the property comfortable, with special mentions of comfy beds and seating. Some guests suggested improvements in the provision of pillows and additional easy chairs, but overall, the comfort level is high.
Facilities are generally well-received, with a well-equipped kitchen and good showers. However, there are comments about the need for more wine glasses, a second front door key, and the steep angle of the driveway. The property is well-maintained, but these points suggest room for improvement.
While guests appreciate the extras provided, such as dishwasher tablets and hand wash, there is no mention of gifts. Therefore, it cannot be determined if the property offers gifts, and the score is set to null.

Beds and living areas were comfortable and the kitchen is well set up for self-catering. I was, however, surprised to find that there was nothing but salt in the cupboards, not even the makings for a cup of tea or a bit of oil and vinegar. I comment on this as all of the other places we staying in during our 6 weeks in England did provide those things. The cottage is 7-10 minutes walk into the town centre, with lots of options for meals, etc. along with access to a good bus service connecting the Lakes district which we used a few times to avoid the narrow country lanes and high parking fees. There are a couple of small supermarkets in Ambleside but a much bigger one a short drive away in Windemere.

It's in a lovely quiet location above the town, a short walk from the town and the lake. It's comfortable and well equipped with parking for four cars on the driveway. Everything worked well.
