About this property

The Barn at Grasmere is a well-presented cottage resting in Grasmere, Cumbria, offering views of the Grasmere valley and includes a designated off-road parking for one car and a woodburning stove that brings the living space together after days spent outdoors. Set across a single-storey layout, the apartment allows you to arrive and settle with ease. As you enter the cloak room area provides some hooks for outdoor clothing, along with a handy separate washroom with WC and basin. The kitchen supports relaxed self-catering, whether you’re preparing a simple breakfast, or bringing back local produce to enjoy later. Nearby, the living/diner provides a natural place to gather, with space to dine, unwind with the Smart TV, or linger by the stove as the light fades across the surrounding landscape.

Three bedrooms offer flexible sleeping arrangements, including a king-size, a double, and a twin, making the property well-suited to families or friends. A bathroom with bath and shower over, helps the day flow smoothly, whether you’re heading out early or returning from the fells. The pretty gravelled garden area and patio offer outstanding views down the Grasmere valley, the perfect place to enjoy some outdoor time with your favourite beverage. Step outside and you’re within easy reach of Grasmere village, where highlights include the famous Grasmere Gingerbread Shop, the lakeside walk around Grasmere Water, and Wordsworth’s Dove Cottage and Museum, offering insight into the area’s literary heritage.

Nearby Ambleside adds variety with boat trips on Windermere, independent shops, and well-trodden routes up Loughrigg Fell. For a quieter change of pace, Elterwater and Skelwith Bridge provide rewarding walks past Skelwith Force and a chance to pause at Chesters by the River. However you choose to explore, The Barn at Grasmere places you at the heart of the Lakes.

Situated in the heart of the Lake District National Park is the lovely village of Grasmere, probably best known as the home of William Wordsworth, a place he once described as "The most loveliest spot that man hath found". Any visit to Grasmere needs to include The Grasmere Gingerbread shop, where the Wilson family has been making gingerbread for over 60 years. Also in the village are a number of shops, pubs, a church which dates back to the 13th century, and Grasmere Lake. Grasmere Sports takes place every August, where you can watch participants compete in a variety of sports, including Cumberland wrestling. Just five miles away is the town of Ambleside and Lake Winderemere where you will find shops, pubs, restaurants and the 17th century Bridge House, which is one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District. Cruises, boat trips and watersports can all be enjoyed on Lake Windermere, and the towns of Windermere and Keswick are also within driving distance. Grasmere is a wonderful base for your Lake District retreat.
