Troutbeck is a smartly furnished one-bedroom, ground floor apartment near to the centre of the traditional Lakeland town of Ambleside. Take a three-minute walk down Peggy Hill and enjoy a bite to eat or a drink at one of its excellent restaurants, cafes, bars and pubs. Take in the latest film at one of the two well-loved cinemas or stroll through lovely Rothay Park to enjoy the scenic views and calming river. Take a fifteen-minute walk to Waterhead to enjoy a relaxing cruise along magnifi-cent Lake Windermere, England’s largest natural lake or hire your own boat to explore its hidden bays. Your apartment is at the heart of the National Park, a perfect place from which to explore by car or by public transport, the area’s interesting towns, villages, hamlets and wonderful countryside.

Why not leave the car for the day or even your entire stay. Strike out on foot to discover the glori-ous countryside. You are surrounded by walking routes to suit everyone, from a village stroll or level river walk to a challenging hike.

Park the car directly outside the shared entrance hall and leave your outdoor gear in the cupboard. Go into your front door entrance and relax in your lovely sunny sitting room with dining area. Make a drink in your tastefully furnished, fully fitted kitchen and plan a romantic evening meal to be enjoyed on your table for two. Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

    But a few things did let it down. The light above the front door did not work, the front door was very stiff and difficult to open and closing. We were also disappointed by the total lack of radio signal and occasional loss of TV signal during watching programme. Other than late it's a really great place to stay.

    The kitchen was well-stocked with utensils and equipment. The bathroom was very smart with a fabulous shower. It would be good to include in the property details that towels are provided. We were surprised that only one toilet roll was provided for the week. The bed was comfortable and there was plenty of storage. Having a dedicated parking place was a real bonus!

    The property is lovely and extremely well equipped. The last time we stayed, the only thing we noted was the old settee. This time, not only had the furniture been replaced, but there was new carpet. It really is a great property, well situated away from the busy part of town and with a great parking space right outside. I cannot recommend highly enough and we will definitely stay again.
