The mediaeval village of Flookburgh, located on the borders of the great Lake District and close to the shores of Morecambe Bay, makes an excellent base from which to explore this fascinating and stunning region. It is believed that the name of the settlement is derived from the locally obtained fluke fish. Flookburgh, which is now home to cockle and shrimp fishermen, was formerly a well-liked resting place for travellers coming from Lancaster across the dunes. The community has two pubs, a grocery store, a pharmacy, a post office, and two eating establishments. A short walk from the settlement is lovely countryside, including Humphrey Head, views of the bay with its wading bird life, and Coniston's mountain range. The Cumbrian Coastal Way also passes close by. Historic Cartmel, with its lovely Priory, well-liked racetrack, antique and gift stores, bars, and restaurants, including the Michelin Star-rated L'Enclume, is reachable in a few minutes by car or on a nice off-road stroll. The lovely Holker Hall mansion and gardens are just over a mile away, and just six miles to the north in Bigland you can go horseback riding. You can also visit the Edwardian resort of Grange, which has a variety of hotels, eateries, shops, a pedestrian promenade, ornamental gardens, and golf courses.

We did not know what Access code were and travelled to Brauch not knowing if we could get in! On arrival a young couple showed us how to gain entry. You seem to have no tel No that gives access to a real person to speak to in emergencies. This is unacceptable. We shall not use your cottages again and ask that you close our Account.

It was spoiled slightly by heavy footed guests above us. Still, it was a great break. Clean and well equipped, with some nice touches. Just two things spring to mind, that there was no wardrobe for the second bedroom. And in the en suite, it needed a light directly over the mirror, for shaving. But overall it was very good. Mike

The quality of the furnishings is excellent. However, my only, but significant, issue was with the heating. It was pretty cold during the two weeks we stayed, to the point where we could see our breath inside. The owner told me he would adjust the heating, and we went back and forth for four days. Eventually, I gave up and drove a 60-mile round trip to buy a heater. Having the owner argue that it was perfectly warm while I was sitting in my coat was not what I wanted during my stay. Whether the app on his phone wasn't working or he was just too miserly to spend a bit on electricity, the heating still went off all day despite his repeated assurances that he had adjusted it. Either way, I won't be staying in any place where the heating is controlled remotely.
