Guests say

Camellia Cottage is highly praised for its cosy charm, cleanliness, and superb location, offering a peaceful retreat with easy access to local attractions. Guests appreciate the well-equipped facilities, comfortable furnishings, and thoughtful touches, although some minor maintenance issues are noted. The property is dog-friendly, with many enjoying the nearby walks and pub.

The cottage receives high marks for cleanliness, with guests frequently noting its clean and fresh appearance. One review mentioned dirty kitchen surfaces and ants, but this seems to be an isolated incident, not reflective of the general guest experience.

The location is highly regarded for its tranquillity and proximity to local attractions, with easy access to walks and a nearby pub. Some guests found the location a bit remote, and there were comments about narrow roads, but the overall sentiment is very positive.

Comfort is consistently praised, with guests finding the beds cosy and the living spaces homely. However, a few guests mentioned issues with bed size and hardness, and the spiral staircase was noted as uncomfortable for some, slightly lowering the score.

Facilities are generally well-received, with the cottage being well-equipped for cooking and relaxation. Some guests mentioned the need for kindling and logs for the fire, and minor maintenance issues like a broken speaker plug and bathroom radiator, which suggests room for improvement.

While many reviews mention the cottage's charm and character, there are no specific references to gifts or special thoughtful gestures provided by the hosts. Therefore, it is not possible to score this category.

About this property

Set in the quiet hamlet of Crook just a short drive from the shores of Lake Windermere and within relatively easy reach of the Central Lakes, the Cottage is a great location to relax or get active. Playing golf? A 9-hole course is available in the village and two 18-hole courses are nearby including the renowned Windermere Golf Club. You can also fish, cycle or simply walk from the door.

This is a lovely cottage that is bright and airy, well-appointed and a real treat. The open plan living space is focused around the dual aspect log burning stove, with comfy sofas and TV and on the other side of the wood-burner is the dining area. The modern kitchen has all the amenities required, and a spiral staircase that leads to the bedrooms, dressing room and bathroom on the first floor. You can relax in the delightful courtyard overlooked by the pretty cottage garden. To the front of the cottage and across the quiet lane the view is of the neighbouring orchard and the meadows beyond.

The village of Crook is on the edge of the Lyth Valley not far from Kendal and Windermere. The village of Staveley is a ten-minute drive away and there you will find a good range of shops and places to eat and gateway to the Kentmere Horseshoe and tarn. The Lyth Valley lies behind Cartmel Fell to the east of Lake Windermere and is known for its serene orchard landscapes, in particular damsons. There are a number of widely acclaimed Lake District gastropubs including The Punchbowl at Crosthwaite, The Black Labrador at Underbarrow, The Mason's Arms at Strawberry Bank and Hare and Hounds at Levens. The unspoilt medieval village of Cartmel on the fringe of the Lake District National Park - a twenty-minute drive from Camellia Cottage. A foodie’s paradise, with inns, shops and the internationally acclaimed Michelin Star restaurant, L'Enclume. There is also Cartmel Racecourse. Ten minutes west of the cottage the bustling village of Bowness sits on the shores of Lake Windermere and again offers a wealth of places to eat and drink, a great selection of shops and visitor attractions for all the family.

The pretty hamlet of Crook is situated in beautiful Lakeland countryside and offers excellent access to the heart of the Lake District National Park. There are two hotels/pubs in Crook itself and a wide variety of super walks on the surrounding fells. Less than six miles from Lake Windermere - England's longest lake - and a similar distance from all of the amenities of Kendal, Cumbria's historic market town.

Only down side was towel rail didn't work in bathroom and as it was winter couldn't dry our wet towels.

The cottage is generally well-equipped (lovely ceramics, too!) and warm. It's a peaceful and scenic spot, an easy drive from some of the most stunning landscapes in this area, but without the crowds tramping past your window. The lovely Sun Inn is just a few minutes walk away for a friendly drink and good food. We did not find the turnpike stair a problem (we are middle-aged and reasonably fit). A full box of matches to light the wood burner was the only thing missing! Definitely one of the loveliest places we've stayed.

The folder containing instructions and ideas for places to go was incredibly useful. We wanted to mention that the WiFi password has rubbed off on the little card so we couldn't access the internet (although we didn't call to ask as we decided to have a phone detox!). Thank you for a lovely stay, we'd love to come back.
