The Ridge is a unique fusion of a classic mountain retreat and a contemporary lodge, located in Bowness-on-Windermere in Cumbria, and perfect for those seeking the ultimate luxury stay. Its private, elevated setting offers panoramic views over Lake Windermere while being just a short stroll from a private lakefront and boathouse. Extensively transformed in 2024 by award-winning developers Pin & Pin, The Ridge is arguably one of the finest homes within the Lake District National Park. Spanning over 6,000 square feet, the bespoke interior details have been crafted by local artisans to create a warm and snug chalet-lodge atmosphere—ideal for those chilly winter months. During the warmer seasons, the ground-floor living area opens onto expansive terraces, perfect for alfresco entertaining and enjoying sunsets over the breathtaking views. At the end of the day, six lavish bedrooms feature the finest linens, pocket-sprung mattresses, and textured headboards, ensuring unparalleled luxury for all guests. Complementing this, The Ridge offers a range of facilities, including a gym, cinema, games room, and boathouse, providing ample entertainment for all ages. The living space is the heart and soul of The Ridge, where guests can relax, unwind, and enjoy their stay together. Floor-to-ceiling windows offer sweeping views of the lake and the mountains beyond, while sink-into chairs and subtle designer lighting encourage guests to linger over mugs of tea as the weather shifts outside. With a kitchen perfect for socialising after a day’s adventures and a sumptuous dining area that maximises the glorious sunsets, staying in has never been so appealing. The cinema room is a favorite for many guests. A dark and snug atmosphere has been created using reclaimed barn timbers, oversized loungers, and beanbags—perfect for those quiet nights in. An 85” TV with high-tech surround sound immerses guests in their chosen film. The private gym is set just off the cinema room, with bi-folding doors opening onto the main terrace. The natural slate walls and dark timber ceiling create a rich, opulent space for an energetic workout or a yoga class on the terrace. Whether listening to their choice of music or watching an action film while working out on the cross trainer, this indulgent space flaunts everything a discerning guest could wish for. Want a more bespoke experience or an invigorating session? The house manager can organise massages, spa treatments, personal training, and class exercises for guests on request. The gentleman’s games room provides a relaxing hangout for watching sports, playing pool, or poker late into the evening. With a built-in fireplace, sound system, and TV, it’s perfect for watching those all-important sports matches or an intimate film, wrapped up in fur blankets. In the warmer months, the glass wall can be opened onto the outdoor kitchen and bar, with the best views in the house. Several terraces and balconies stretch along the whole of the Lodge, showcasing unforgettable views that span across Lake Windermere. Several seating areas have been created for groups to gather and admire the sunset with a drink in hand. A short meander through the garden brings you to the boathouse. Nestled on the serene shores, the boathouse is a sanctuary of relaxation, where timeless design meets the quiet luxury of lakeside living. An undercover deck offers panoramic views of the sparkling water, making it the perfect spot for savouring a glass of wine before dinner as the sun dips below the hillside opposite. The highlight of this haven is the outdoor tin bubble bath, perched above the lake and surrounded by rustic oak. It invites you to unwind under the open sky, with the gentle lapping of water adding to the ambiance. The open-plan living area of the boathouse features plush seating, a fireplace, and large windows that invite the outdoors in. A fully equipped kitchen is perfect for preparing a light lunch in between frolicking on the lake, with the option of an indoor or outdoor shower to rinse off before heading back to the house. For those seeking adventure, the boathouse comes equipped with kayaks, paddleboards, and life jackets, enabling you to explore the lake and its private coves from the jetty. If you want to explore further afield, the house manager would be happy to organise a private boat trip for the day or, for the more daring, an afternoon of wakeboarding lessons. There’s no excuse not to embrace the great outdoors here, especially as some of the lake’s best-loved walks are on the doorstep. Amble through peaceful hamlets and refuel in one of the excellent local pubs en route before regrouping in your irresistibly comfortable home-from-home. After exploring the area during the day, try one of the top-class restaurants the area has to offer, followed by one of the many rustic pubs or quirky bars. If that all sounds like too much effort, the house manager would be delighted to organise a private chef to entertain you in the house with some culinary delights. Let your unforgettable journey begin at Ridge House.
