Guests say

The Old Paybarn is a spacious, well-equipped and characterful cottage in a peaceful location, ideal for exploring North Norfolk. Guests consistently praise its comfort, dog-friendly gardens, and proximity to local amenities and beaches. The kitchen and living areas are highly rated, and many guests return for repeat stays. While the spiral staircase and low ceilings upstairs may be challenging for some, and a few guests noted occasional cleaning oversights, the overall experience is overwhelmingly positive, with many recommending the property and planning future visits.

Most guests found the cottage very clean and well-presented, with only a few mentioning minor issues such as dust, cobwebs, or the need for more attention to detail in some areas. These were exceptions rather than the norm.

The location is frequently described as ideal, peaceful, and perfect for exploring North Norfolk, with easy access to beaches, walking paths, and village amenities. Guests appreciate the quiet setting and proximity to local attractions.

The cottage is widely praised for its comfort, spaciousness, and cosy atmosphere. Beds are described as comfortable, and the property remains cool in hot weather. Some mention the low ceiling and spiral staircase as minor drawbacks.

Facilities are highly rated, with guests noting the well-equipped kitchen, utility room, gardens, and ample seating. Occasional maintenance issues (e.g., hoover, toilet flush) were rare and promptly addressed. Storage in the upstairs bedroom is limited due to the sloped roof.

Guests appreciated the well-thought-out amenities and dog-friendly features. However, there is no consistent mention of welcome gifts or extras such as milk, and it should be noted that such items are not guaranteed.

Here you can enjoy sweet dreams in the peaceful countryside, where the only sounds you will hear are bird songs and the sounds of the horses. The pleasant village of Snettisham offers something for everyone, whatever your age and whatever the weather! The beach here is enormous – wide and spacious. It lies almost 2 miles from the village centre and is a mixture of stone and sand, with a grassy area behind. At the southern end of Snettisham beach is the well-known rspb Nature Reserve. Here you will find a number of hides you can use without having to be a member. From the hides you can enjoy one of the country’s greatest wildlife spectacles. This is especially so when the rising high spring tides force thousands of birds to leave the mudflats where they are feeding and settle close to the hides.

Snettisham is a walker’s haven, particularly for dog owners, with the village having miles of public footpaths plus the ancient Peddars Way is found nearby. A firm favourite for children is Snettisham Park Farm, which is a working farm that offers hands-on activities. Along with the traditional farm animals, deer and llamas can be found here, plus tractor and trailer rides, making this a family fun day out. Again aimed at children, the traditional seaside town of Hunstanton with its sandy beach, promenade, sea-life centre and fairground rides is just a mere 5 miles away. For adults you will be spoilt for choice of where to visit first, with so many fantastic places to explore locally, such as the Royal Sandringham Estate, Holkham Hall, Norfolk Lavender and Houghton Hall to name just a few. Beach, shop and pub within 3 miles.

The Old Paybarn (ref UK39378) and The Annexe at Park Farm Barns (ref UK39379) can be booked together to accommodate up to 7 guests.

A very enjoyable stay even though we had some of the hottest days ever! We enjoyed the garden which is shady late afternoon and evening and made for very pleasant outdoor eating. I am very happy to recommend the Old Pay Barn.

Another lovely stay at the Paybarn. Great location and very comfortable. I have only lowered the score on equipment because the hoover did not work (discovered when we did tidy up before leaving) and only being provided with one slightly old tea towel. This has never been an issue on our previous visits and I expect that it was simply a mistake on this occasion. We will be back again.
