Dove Cottage is a cosy, quirky retreat ideally situated just a short walk from Barnard Castle’s attractions, shops, and scenic walks. Guests appreciate its characterful décor, well-equipped kitchen, and dog-friendly approach. The cottage is warm and inviting, with a comfortable lounge and convenient parking. While the shower and main bed receive mixed feedback, most find the property clean and well-suited for couples or small families. The lack of Wi-Fi and a fully enclosed garden are noted, but the excellent location and overall charm make it a popular choice for a relaxing stay in a beautiful area.
Most guests found the cottage clean and tidy, though there were isolated reports of missed cleaning in the kitchen and fridge. Overall, cleanliness is generally satisfactory but could be improved.
The location is highly praised, with guests loving the proximity to the town centre, Bowes Museum, shops, and scenic walks. Parking is convenient and free.
The cottage is described as cosy and comfortable, though some guests found the main bed too soft and the single bed short. The lounge and heating are appreciated, but the small shower is a drawback for some.
Facilities are generally good, with a well-equipped kitchen and reliable hot water. However, the shower is small, Wi-Fi is lacking, and the garden is not enclosed for dogs. Some minor maintenance issues were noted.
There are no mentions of welcome gifts or extra thoughtful touches in the reviews, so a score cannot be provided for this category.

2nd time we have stayed here this year, brilliant location for the town and all the amenities. The cottage isn't massive but certainly big enough for 2, plus our 2 dogs. The downstairs has a comfy sofa with enough kitchen to cook up a meal and all the equipment you need. Upstairs the 2 bedrooms are comfy, I find the main bed too soft so I slept in the smaller bedroom which whilst not ideal was more than comfy. Some have queried the shower, its absolutely fine, hubby over 6ft and he can use it with no issues. The water is always hot and the towels are soft. You have a perfect position for a property, its a couple of minutes walk to the fantastic Bowes museum as well as the good sized Morrisons or the castle or the pubs abd shops. Great walk for dogs on your doorstep and friendly locals you meet on your way. Just as a point there is no real garden for dogs but, if like mine, they wee on grass then thats a few minutes to walk to.Great property, quirky and comfy. Good gas fire which is easy to use and lovely addition of a door curtain so its cosy at night.Recommend this property wholeheartedly. Great price for a lovely place in a fantastic town.

Arriving at the very cold cottage with no idea how to start the gas fire was disappointing. Realising the mobile ph service was minimal, and intermittent when trying to get instructions came next. Later realising NO Wi-Fi bar slow and patchy via this ph signal was very frustrating. For these reasons I would not stay here again. When it was warm it showed itself to be a little cottage with quirky goth meets Druid decor and maximal faux fur. If eating in it has to be on your knee with terrestrial TV. Also note if bringing your dog(s) the garden is not enclosed. Barnard Castle is beautiful as is the entire region. Lots to see locally do with history and museums, markets, walks in the parks or by the river, up the hills and down the dales. Lovely shops, pubs and restaurants all in easy walking distance. Love the area.
