About this property

Resting beside the estuary of Alnmouth and within easy reach of the local shops, pub and beach, Beach House is a well-presented property ideal for a Northumbrian family getaway. Be welcomed into this stone front house, finding yourself in a spectacular sitting room, where an open fire crackles as seas of light are drawn in from the large bay windows, making this a wonderful spot to put your feet up and catch up on some reading, and there is also the option of a games room with a day bed and mini pool table. When mealtimes call, the kitchen has all of the home-from-home amenities needed to cook up a storm, which can be enjoyed in the dining area. Soak the sand from your hair in the shower room or enjoy a warm bath, before getting cosy in one of the three bedrooms, a king-size with a TV, storage and stripy furniture, a second-floor king-size with baby blue roof beams and wooden flooring and a lovely bunk room with wood panelled walls and ceiling, ideal for children. Outside there is a yard with a patio and furniture, encouraging you to dine alfresco. Alnmouth is a fantastic coastal town with a lot on offer for guests, beginning with the large sandy beach, so why not enjoy a stroll in the salty air or visit the harbour or riverside walks? Venture into town for a bite to eat, sampling local produce at one of the tasty eateries and you can stock up on essentials at the local convenience store. Further from the property you will find the town of Warkworth, where there are more pubs, shops and a fantastic castle. Enjoy a trip to the seaside with a stay at Beach House.

Situated just 4 miles east of Alnwick, Alnmouth is a charming resort popular with golfers and those seeking a peaceful holiday. The village lies on a narrow spit of land between the River Aln and the North Sea and was originally the port for Alnwick. Nowadays the area has returned to its unspoilt origins and offers a good variety of shops, pubs and restaurants as well as an excellent “links” golf course and some great rivers for fishing, as well as boasting miles and miles of splendid beaches and sand dunes to explore which afford stunning views of the North Sea. A short drive will bring you to Alnwick with its famous historic castle, The Alnwick Garden housing the Poison Garden which runs guided tours through dangerous botanicals and a variety of pubs and restaurants. Alnmouth is well situated for exploring Northumberland.

Unkempt garden with green mouldy patio. Cobwebs hanging from living room and bedroom light fittings. Poorly stocked kitchen. Broken cutlery holder in the dishwasher. The bins were full when we arrived nowhere to put our rubbish.

The house has good-sized bedrooms, the lounge is very comfortable with the sun streaming into it every morning, and the central heating was efficient. We were surprised to see the open fire has gone, as it's still mentioned in the description, but there's an electric fire instead which (though less romantic) was probably a good deal easier to light and warm the lounge through. The beds were comfy, the kitchen had everything we needed, and there was even a bed provided for the dogs. It's a bit of a pain that dogs aren't allowed upstairs, as our two are used to sleeping with us and weren't very impressed at being kept downstairs, but I can understand that the owners don't want to risk muddy paws on furnishings. All in all, we found it good value for money and loved it!

It was a comfortable lounge area for the family to relax in and was nice and warm. However we had a few issues with general cleanliness that should have been easy to maintain. There was mouldy cutlery in the dishwasher; the ocean was unclean and the carpet had a lot of dirty stains on our arrival which was a little off putting. The dishcloths were very old and tatty too - they need to be replaced. A couple of us also felt itchy and had 1-3 bite marks on our bodies and we wondered if this could be bed bugs - but I couldn't be sure. Overall a great house but would be reluctant to revisit unless I could be sure these things were rectified.
