Situated just 4 miles east of Alnwick, Alnmouth is a charming resort popular with golfers and those seeking a peaceful holiday. The village lies on a narrow spit of land between the River Aln and the North Sea and was originally the port for Alnwick. Nowadays the area has returned to its unspoilt origins and offers a good variety of shops, pubs and restaurants as well as an excellent “links” golf course and some great rivers for fishing, as well as boasting miles and miles of splendid beaches and sand dunes to explore which afford stunning views of the North Sea. A short drive will bring you to Alnwick with its famous historic castle, The Alnwick Garden housing the Poison Garden which runs guided tours through dangerous botanicals and a variety of pubs and restaurants. It was basic and a bit dated/worn out in terms of decor and kitchen amenities but this didnât stop us having a lovely stay and reminded us of how homes used to be like. I was glad we had our Christmas Day lunch booked locally as the kitchen would not have had the capacity to cook anything more than basic cooking. The cooker could do with a professional clean.

The bedding and towels were beautiful and well maintained. We found everything to our liking but we did find the kitchen very basic. However, this didnât have a detrimental effect on our holiday whatsoever and we certainly wouldnât hesitate in booking this cottage again. It is also ideally situated for access to the beach.
