Most guests found the cottage clean, with one report of a fusty smell and cobwebs. The positive remarks on cleanliness suggest a generally high standard.

Guests praised the comfortable bed and cosy atmosphere, especially the log burner. However, one guest mentioned damp clothes and a cold bath, slightly affecting the score.

Home to the famous Coldstream Guards, the pretty borders town of Coldstream sits on the northern bank of the River Tweed, and was once a rival to Gretna Green for runaway marriages. There is a museum dedicated to the Guards, a good selection of shops and pubs, or visitors can try their hand at a variety of activities, including cycling, fishing, golf, riding or walking in the beautiful surrounding countryside. The picturesque seat of The Earls of Hume, including former Conservative Prime Minister Alec Douglas-Home, is The Hirsel, an estate to the west of the town with a fine mansion in beautiful grounds through which flow the Leet Waters, famous for a wide range of birds which nest there. Good enclosed gardens and paddock. Plenty of logs (free) for the much needed fire in November. Unfortunately we had to a few days early due to ill health. Ideal base for visiting other areas. Wouldnât hesitate to return.

The cottage was very cosy, the logburner kept us comfortable, with an unlimited supply of logs. Tarn our setter enjoyed hunting the pheasants in the paddock. Good dog walking at Spittle beach by Berwick - on-Tweed, Bamburgh and the river Till by Etam.

A cosy cottage with all that you need for both Humans and dogs ! The log burner was extremely welcome as the nights have got colder. Jim and Pam are the perfect hosts and made sure everything was just right. The enclosed garden in itself was wonderful knowing you could let your dogs out and know they could not escape. To top it off with a large paddock area for your dogs to run and play was just fantastic. 'Jims' cabin in the garden afforded a relaxing time for both us and the dogs. Don't expect it to be a 'showhome' it isn't, however a welcoming cosy cottage it is. Well done Jim and Pam. Andrew and Wendy Boyland , and Penny and Suzie Our Loveable staffies.
