About this property

Do you fancy yourself as Lord or Lady of the Manor? Dunstan Hall is the perfect place to indulge those fantasies. The beautiful Northumberland holiday home sleeps 18 people in 10 bedrooms with parts dating back some 800 years and views across fields towards the coast and Dunstaburgh Castle. It's in the quiet village of Dunstan, a stroll from the village pub and a mile from the historic village of Craster, with it’s gastro pub, café and fishmongers, selling the famous Craster kipper! About 100 yards up the road is the start of a scenic bridleway to Embleton Bay, about a mile and a half away. Alnwick, Bamburgh, Lindisfarne and the Cheviot Hills are all nearby for memorable days out. You can book Dunstan Hall in combination with the owner's two other adjacent cottages for self-catering holidays for 29 friends, family members or colleagues.

Dunstan Hall is gorgeous. The Grade-II* listed holiday rental is perfect for getting your family and friends together. Plan the ideal reunion or celebration in this beautiful stone building, the oldest parts of which date from the 1100s. The location in the Northumberland Coast aonb is as spectacular as the house. Occupying a prime location in Dunstan village, you're 400 yards from the village pub and a ten minute walk to Craster, with a gastro pub, café and fish mongers, selling the famous Craster kippers. 100 yards along the road is the start of a bridleway which leads to Embleton beach. It's ideal for a self-catering break in any season. There is space for 18 people to sleep in ten beautifully appointed bedrooms, with two other private holiday cottages on-site, increasing the potential accommodation to 29 people.

Northumberland is wonderfully peaceful, yet there's always plenty to do. Its beaches are breathtaking. Whilst you might not want to take a dip in the North Sea in autumn and winter (and possibly even spring and summer), they are popular for SUPs, surfing, coasteering, diving, snorkelling, and kiteboarding. The Englands Coastal Path is great for walking, bird and wildlife watching. The county is renowned for its magnificent castles and fortified buildings. Now great places for a day out and a picnic, castles like Dunstanburgh, Alnwick, Bamburgh, Warkworth and Chillingham served an essential purpose when England and Scotland were unsteady neighbours. Limited cycle storage can be arranged on request (local bike hire is available) for cycling routes like the picturesque Coast to Castle, with mountain bikers enjoying trails through the Cheviot Hills. Golf and seasonal fishing are two more wonderful ways to enjoy the landscape.

Local attractions include Alnwick Castle, used as a filming backdrop for the first two films in the Harry Potter franchise. A converted train station in Alnwick is home to Britain's biggest second-hand bookshop, giving even more reason for bibliophiles to love it. Alnwick Castle's gardens are spectacular, as are those at Howick Hall and Cragside House. The owner of Cragside pioneered hydroelectricity to power his home, and many of its features were incredibly forward-thinking. Cross the causeway to Lindisfarne or book a seat on a wildlife spotting tour to see resident puffins and seals on the Farne Islands.

The owner of Dunstan Hall is keen to ensure your holiday is everything you could dream of. They can help arrange guided photography walks, a private chef to cook a special meal, performances by local musicians, a talk and walk with an expert in local history, restaurant recommendations, etc.

Accommodation Comprises:

The oldest part of Dunstan Hall, the tower, is thought to date from the 11th Century. The central part of the house was built between the 14th and 18th Centuries with rebuilding and updating over the years, leading to a unique layout with lots of quirky period features. Far from feeling like a museum, Dunstan Hall is a comfortable, welcoming home that invites you to be part of its history, even if only for a few days.

Ground Floor:

  • You immediately see the large 15th Century fireplace as you enter the entrance hall.
  • Entertain your guests in the impressive drawing room featuring Queen Anne panelling and a grand piano. It's a fantastic place for socialising.
  • The main sitting room has a Jacobean fireplace, with electric flame effect stove; there are window seats and a traditional fireside settle, perfect for curling up with a book! For some extra peace and quiet, try the small sitting room in the Tower, just off the main room. With its stone vaulted ceiling, it’s just begging for some ‘day dreaming’ about days gone by.
  • The size of the dining room could make it imposing. However, antique furniture, tapestries, and a big fireplace create a cosy atmosphere perfect for everything from casual brunches featuring famous Craster kippers to celebration meals. There is room for everyone at the vast refectory table.
  • Period features are lovely to look at, but when catering for groups, you want efficient appliances and lots of suitable utensils. The owners have ensured the kitchen is very well equipped whether you are doing the cooking or have arranged a caterer. It features an electric range, a big fridge, and lots of room to prepare meals.
  • A shiny four-oven AGA takes pride of place in the sunny breakfast room. It's fantastic for keeping food warm to allow people to eat when they're ready - perfect for the morning after!
  • Laundry and cleaning facilities are tucked neatly away in the utility room, with a WC and a handbasin.
  • Additional cloakroom and WC.
  • First Floor:

  • Two Tudor wooden staircases leads to the upper floor landing, bedrooms and bathrooms.
  • Bedroom One is a spacious king with gorgeous panelling and window seats to admire the breathtaking views.
  • Bedroom Two is another large king featuring dual aspect windows, beautiful panelling, and a door leading to a twin room with two single beds. It's a good choice for families.
  • Bedroom Three faces west and is ideal for anyone who likes to sleep late. It has a king-sized bed, garden views and an ensuite with a shower, WC and a handbasin.
  • Bedroom Four is a twin room with two single beds, superb views towards Dunstanburgh Castle, and an ensuite shower room.
  • Bedroom Five is best suited for children or teenagers as it has bunk beds.
  • Bedrooms Six and Seven are singles. One has a small (2ft 6in-wide) single bed and is appropriate for a child.
  • As with the kitchen, the bathrooms are wonderfully modern. There are three on this level - two with a shower and the other with a shower and a bath.
  • Top Floor:

  • Another flight of Tudor stone stairs take guests to the top floor.
  • If you can't find the kids, look for them in the 25ft-long games room with a TV and lots to keep them entertained.
  • Two inter-connected twin bedrooms each have two single beds. One room faces west over the garden and countryside, while the other is in the tower and looks east with views of the castle through the mullioned window.
  • Outside: The hall has a garden walled on two sides and parking for eight cars. Other grounds are shared with guests of the other two holiday cottages.

Additional Information: Utilities, WiFi, bed linen and bath towels are all included when hiring Dunstan Hall. Smoking, naked flames and pets are not allowed, making this property suitable for guests with allergies.
