The ground floor features a spacious family room with four single beds and an en-suite toilet, making it ideal for children or small groups. Upstairs on the mezzanine, a kingsize bedroom with en-suite shower room provides privacy and comfort, making Mercury perfectly suited for couples or parents looking for their own retreat. The open-plan kitchen, dining, and living area is thoughtfully designed as a social hub, complete with a cosy biomass stove and large windows that bring the outdoors in. Step out onto the veranda to take in panoramic views across Tarset Valley, stretching all the way to Scotland.
From Mercury 5, adventure is never far away. Guests can walk or cycle straight from the door, explore nearby Kielder Forest, or spot local wildlife including red squirrels, deer, wild goats, and ospreys. By night, the skies reveal a glittering canopy of stars, as the area sits within Europe’s largest International Dark Sky Park. For those seeking extra excitement, Tarset Tor can arrange activities such as horse riding, fishing, quad biking, survival courses, and golf tours. Facilities on site add even more to your stay, with a barbecue and fire pit, woodland bar, sauna, bird hide, drying room, cycle store and bike wash, pool table, and a 5-a-side football pitch.

The hosts are approachable and friendly. The location was amazing.We loved the lodge it was clean, comfortable and well looked after.The pellet stove was easy to use, which made the lodge cosy in the evenings.Would happily stay here again.

We had a great time.A fantastic location for Kielder water (although we only went there once - the bird of prey centre there is recommended). We had a great time visiting a number of roman sites as well as longer journeys to Solway aviation museum which was amazing considering the very cheap price (£20 for a family of 5 including the cockpit tour of the vulcan), and to Lindisfarne. beautiful scenery all around.Tarset Tor Mercury 5 was great for our needs. The on site mini footy pitch was fantastic for the kids to play when back home waiting for tea or before we were ready to set off. The upstairs adult room was great - separate toilet and showeroom (double shower... I thought it was a reflection in the photos!). The kids room has 2 sets of bunk beds (4 in total). Equally great for the kids. the individual lights in a couple of them was useful for keeping the kids in their bed reading for a bit longer to give opportunity for more sleep.I was a little worried about the pond, but it is set back enough that if your children vaguely listen to safety based instructions - they will be fine. Mercury is the closest cabin to it, so there are unfettered views across the landscape.Would we stay again - yes. Our youngest was VERY sad to leave. However, there is only so much to see, so it is unlikely we will go to Northumberland again next year... but maybe in a few years again when the kids are older.Did we have any issues? a couple. The hot water ran out (it comes from a tank) one evening mid kids showers. I found the boost button, but the last child had to wait until after tea. A couple of other very minor niggles - but not worth mentioning more other than I have messaged the owners so these dont develop into bigger issues down the road for future guests.
