2nd time staying and our next stay is already booked. The cottage is isolated (perfect for us), keep in mind the unmade road which is passable but if you own a low vehicle (lower than a standard hatchback) then it could start to get tricky. Waking up to alpacas grazing and the view across the valley is just amazing. Property is always spotless, warm, peaceful and has everything we needed. Locally the village pub is good and worth a visit especially when they're serving food. As a base for exploring this part of Northumberland or taking advantage of the dark skies I'm not sure you can do better

This cottage is presented to a very high standard and has everything you could possibly need. The bed was comfortable, the shower was powerful and the wood burning stove made the cottage warm and cosy. The alpacas can be seen in field through the patio doors in both the bedroom and living area, they are quirky animals that you can't help watching. Dave and Caroline were about for a chat and gave us information about the local area. The village has a tea rooms which we visited twice, lovely food but only open Thurs, Fri, Sat and Sun 10.30- 2.30. There is also a pub but we didn't visit it. We took all of our food and supplies for the week and were glad we had as the nearest shop, a Co op is in Bellingham 9 miles away, the nearest supermarket is in Hexham, 25 miles away. We walked from the cottage to Kielder Water/forest which is stunning. We walked at Hareshaw Linn to see the waterfalls and then we had afternoon tea on the train at Bellingham which was lovely. It peaceful and quiet and with it being a dark skies area the stars were stunning on a clear night. I would highly recommend this cottage and area for a break. I should just mention the road, you have to drive along, an old railway line for just over a mile, there were plenty of pot holes so you need to drive slowly to dodge them!! It wouldn't put us off visiting again though, I wouldn't hesitate booking again.
