Guests say

Newton Cottage in Newton-by-the-Sea is a well-loved property, praised for its spaciousness, well-equipped kitchen, and beautiful garden. Its proximity to beaches and dog-friendly pubs, along with a picturesque location, make it a desirable holiday spot. While some guests have raised concerns about maintenance and cleanliness, the cottage's charm and amenities like the summerhouse have been appreciated by many.

Reviews are mixed regarding cleanliness. Some guests found the property very clean, while others reported issues such as dust, dirt, and cobwebs. The presence of both positive and negative feedback suggests that cleanliness levels may vary, leading to a slightly above average score.

The location is consistently praised for its quiet, picturesque setting and proximity to beautiful beaches and dog-friendly pubs. It is described as an excellent spot for family gatherings and enjoying the outdoors.

Guests have found the beds comfortable and the property spacious, contributing to a positive experience. However, there are some reports of uncomfortable beds and musty smells, which slightly lower the score.

The property boasts a well-equipped kitchen, spacious bathrooms, and a lovely garden. However, there are several mentions of maintenance issues such as a loose patio stone, broken appliances, and a missing window frame in the summerhouse, indicating room for improvement.

While some guests mentioned a lack of basic supplies and welcome gifts, there is not enough consistent information about the provision of gifts to accurately assess thoughtfulness. Therefore, this score is set to null, and guests should note that gifts are not guaranteed.

The house is in a perfect spot. The garden is beautiful However, the hob didn't work well, there were issues with cleanliness and the windows in the downstairs bedroom didn't open. Also, as someone else mentioned, you had to go through one bedroom to get to another. No basics were left for us on our arrival. The cupboards were bare. Having said all of this, we would still return as it worked well for our party of 9.It was close to the local pub and beaches and we all enjoyed our stay..

Downstairs room double bed had a single sheet as the bottom sheet!! Mattress and pillows need replacing. One slat was lying on the floor No openable window and a very musty smell Other beds reported as uncomfortable The cooker is in urgent need of replacement, the hob is not fit for purpose when cooking for 8 people Freezer was iced up and too small for a party of 8. I had great difficulty in getting pre-holiday information from the booking company

Not all beds made up on arrival. Sand in one bed which was made up on arrival. Big cobwebs in downstairs shower room. Lounge smelt of wet dog. Broken hoover. Whole large window frame missing from summer house, so unusable. Heating left turned completely off, despite being an extremely cold June & control awkward to find. Everything reported at beginning of stay. Only issue resolved during our stay was the beds. It took 3 phone calls and over a month to eventually be offered £60 compensation, which is laughable. So disappointing. Northumbrian Country Cottages/Sykes & the owners need to do an awful lot better for the prices they charge!
