Thistle Dee is set in a quiet area only a short walk from all the friendly pubs, cafés and shops in the charming market town set at the foot of the Cheviot Hills. With a wood burner to cosy up in front of on those cooler evenings, Thistle Dee is the perfect retreat for couples, friends or families to enjoy a well-deserved holiday in this friendly small town. The owners have ensured that a home from home feel runs through all the rooms, with a separate dining room to gather round for those special family times. With four bedrooms and flexible bed arrangements, it is ideal for all ages, with one bedroom and bathroom on the ground floor and the others on the first floor. Visitors will appreciate the three private parking spaces set off the road, and the property has a small side area for sitting out.
St Cuthbert’s Way walk can be joined from the door; a 62-mile route following the ancient pilgrimage route, followed by St Cuthbert and many other monks between Melrose Abbey in the Scottish Borders and the Holy Island of Lindisfarne in north Northumberland. Thistle Dee also sits on the Sandstone Way; a 120-mile mountain biking route. Wooler is said to be the inspiration for ‘Postman Pat’s Greendale’, being the gateway to the Cheviots. Ad Gefrin, a world-class visitor experience with an Anglo Saxon museum and whisky distillery is only 750 yards from the house.
Thistle Dee is only 15 miles from Berwick-upon-Tweed, with a beautiful beach and plenty of shops and history. Northumberland is such a diverse and friendly county with the beautiful Heritage Coast only 15 miles to Bamburgh Castle from where you can follow the trail and take in the history, making it a lovely day trip. Holy Island Causeway is only 14 miles, where the Lindisfarne Gospels were kept (check the tides). The location really is ideal for exploring in all directions of Northumberland and Scotland’s Border counties. Wooler itself has that country feeling while still having a market town buzz, combining home comforts with countryside. You can be hiking the Cheviot Hills in the morning and having a local beer in one of the nearby pubs in the evening.

Thistledee is a spacious property. Four bedrooms, a family bathroom and one ensuite. A separate lounge and dining room. There are two king size beds and a single upstairs, but the en-suite is the only facility on that floor, and it is quite small. We were ok as only two couples, the other using the downstairs bedroom and bathroom. We did feel the cleanliness overall was lacking. The heating system was also a bit complicated, but the owner contacted us quickly when we called them. Also, albeit parking for three cars along one side, we were surprised daily on returning to find different vehicles parked hither and thither, as it is communal parking with the neighbours. Wooler is a lovely little place, with bakery, butchers, take aways, pubs, restaurants etc. and a local coop. In a good position for visiting the attractions nearby. It was lovely to drive along the wonderful quiet roads.

Very well presented. Liked the idea of a bedroom on ground floor as one of the party had mobility issues.Not far from the places we wanted to visit like Holy Island and Cragside.Thank you.
