Great position for the beach and pleasant walks along promenade to all the attractions. Really helpful having the parking permits to use. lovely arrangement of rooms to suit our party of family including grandparents/children and grandchildren of a wide age range. Found the main lounge/eating area really good - a nice place to relax/play games and eat together - something we value and find important. The kitchen would benefit from additional utensils and crockery for catering for large numbers - no large dinner plates! no wooden spoons to name a couple of suggestions. Also no organised system to use the cupboards - plates, cups, mugs and glasses all over the place! We would have expected a higher standard of cleanliness - in the kitchen - cupboards and sink area. In the bedrooms, shower and toilet facilities could be improved.

Booked the cottage with family friends for 4nights. Got there early and was allowed to check in early. The state of the cottage was shocking, extremely dirty and dusty, strange smell in the rooms. We had to do some cleaning before settling in. I commend the owner for changing the kettle and microwave after we complained. But the state of the cottage was poor. We stayed here 3years ago and enjoyed our stay, but this time we were disappointed to say the least.

Our stay at Highbury Cottage was deeply disappointing. On arrival, we discovered that none of the toilets had any toilet rolls—something you'd expect as a basic provision. We had to go out and buy our own. More concerning was the state of the toilet in Room 9, which had dried waste in it. Even the toilet brush we tried to use to clean it was filthy.Despite raising these issues, the response from the host was dismissive, implying we were being dishonest about the condition of the property. I found that not only frustrating but also quite insulting. There were other cleanliness concerns throughout the house which I chose not to raise at the time, but in hindsight, I should have. The situation was made even worse by a spark and smoke incident during our stay, which resulted in the fire services being called. This was understandably distressing, yet we received no follow-up or check-in from the host afterwards—not even a courtesy message to see if we were okay. This experience left us feeling unsupported, disrespected, and let down. I would not recommend this property unless significant improvements are made to both the cleanliness standards and the host's approach to communication and responsibility.
