Gilmore House is a charming cottage praised for its comfortable beds, well-equipped kitchen, and cosy log fire. It's conveniently located for rural walks, with amenities and a friendly pub nearby. The village offers a quiet retreat with easy access to the countryside and nearby towns.
The cottage is described as very clean and comfortable, with no negative comments on cleanliness, suggesting high standards are maintained.
The location is appreciated for its proximity to local amenities, rural walks, and attractions like Hadrian's Wall and the Lakes. However, some concerns about parking and the village's need for TLC slightly affect the score.
Guests find the beds extremely comfortable and the living areas cosy, especially with the log fire. The steep stairs are a noted drawback for some, impacting the comfort level for those with mobility issues.
The kitchen is well-equipped, and the property is generally in good order. However, there are several mentions of maintenance issues such as steep stairs, problematic blinds, and a non-functional electric shower, indicating room for improvement.
There are no mentions of gifts or special touches that would indicate thoughtfulness from the hosts, so it is not possible to provide a score in this category.

Lovely stay here. It has a really good equipped kitchen. The beds are soooo comfortable and a beautiful log fire with logs and firelighters. Two minutes walk ro The Turks head and two minutes walk to Jack's takeaway and the Co op. Fabulous rural walks for our dog. Visited Carlisle (Fabulous for shopping) and Penrith (Tattie Tim) has lovely jacket potatoes and The Angel fish shop does a fab lunchtime special. It's our second visit to Gilmore House and will definitely be back.

Lovely little cottage with all modern amenities, two sitting rooms and two good size bedrooms. Couple of drawbacks were the lack of nearby parking and having to park on the high street, and the stairs which are incredibly steep and narrow and slightly dangerous as I found out when slipping from top to bottom

The property is lovely and in a secluded spot within the village. We couldn't park next to the property so we parked a 100yds or so away in the village square. The road to the square is steep and cobbled, so we'd only recommend the property if you're able-bodied! Equally, the stairs in the house are very steep. The village feels as if it needs some TLC, as there are a number of properties for sale and most of the pubs are closed. On the other hand, there are lots of walks into beautiful countryside directly from the door, and also Hadrian's Wall and the Lakes are within an easy drive.
