The ancient town of Dalton-in-Furness lies in a narrow valley on that part of the Furness Peninsula which extends deep into Morecambe Bay. Once the leading town of Furness, Dalton has a good selection of shops, restaurants and pubs. The architecture of the town includes some interesting buildings in and around the market place, as well as an elegant Victorian drinking fountain, the market cross and slabs of stone used for fish drying in the 19th century. The 14th-century pele tower, known as Dalton Castle, was originally a place of refuge for the monks of nearby Furness Abbey, an impressive sandstone ruin nestling in a peaceful wooded valley. Within easy reach of the town are the South Lakes Wild Animal Park, the world's only Laurel and Hardy museum at Ulverston and the Haventhwaite Steam Railway which runs to Lakeside, where you can board a steam train for Bowness or Ambleside. Just north of Dalton-in-Furness is the stunning Duddon Estuary and Duddon Valley, with Cartmel, Holker Hall and Grizedale Forest within easy reach. Situated on the edge of the Lake District National Park, and surrounded by mountains and beaches, this area is ideal for walkers, cyclists and nature lovers.

The size, location and parking were perfect for our large numbers. The big kitchen and dining tables were just what we needed and the large living area was ideal for the kids to play about in. Communication was great and all the advice given in the lead up was helpful too. We had two disabled members of the family too, so the bedrooms on the ground floor and with ensuites were what we needed. Just to note that one of the attached outside cottages had a shower with only half a shower door. And there is only one toilet in the main house to cater for 3 bedrooms and the main living area, so there were some queues at points in the stay! But these weren't major issues - we'd definitely stay again, perhaps in the summer when we could enjoy the large outside space :)

It has been brilliant. The main house has an abundance of sofas so we could all spread out. A beautiful Christmas tree had been put up in the living room so thank you to the owners for arranging that. The barn was stunning. The 2 little cottages were perfect. There were ample kitchen utensils, cups, plates, cutlery for the 17 of us. Everything was clean. The cooker looked brand new ! We had an issue with the main house toilet constantly flushing but we rang Julie (who was super friendly) and she arranged for it to be sorted the same morning. The staff are very personable and approachable if you have any issues and really go the extra mile to make sure you have the perfect getaway experience. The hot tub was brilliant for enjoying a glass of Buckâs Fizz on Christmas morning in the rain! If I had any recommendations it would be to put a gazebo/shelter over the hot tub but, seeing youâre getting wet anyway I guess itâs not THAT important :-) Weâve had a fantastic time. Thank you.

The communication was really helpful and friendly and was there if needed. The location was perfect for us with having shops walkable and access to the lakes easy. Plenty of parking. We were made aware that recent storms had caused a little bit of damp but it was being dealt with, and with the building being so old it made sense but there was no sign of it when we were there. The only thing that I would recommend being improved would be tea making facilities in the other rooms. If we visit again we would defo book the same place. Thank you for helping make our family holiday amazing
