Two bedrooms include a larger bedroom with a velux window affording splendid views of the surrounding fells and night sky. A fabulous super king size bed which can be made up as a twin. Wardrobe, draws and a chair. The smaller bedroom has a single bed with a pull out bed underneath on your request. The enclosed rear garden offers beautiful views of the Rawthey Valley with a table to dine outdoors situated on a totally private stone patio and an additional super-sized bench seat on which to sit and take in the view over the valley.

Enjoy an unpolluted night sky full of stars on clear nights whilst listening to tawney owls talking to each other. A wealth of wildlife is commonly seen from hares and red squirrel to abundant birdlife and bats. It is not uncommon to see a buzzard soaring overhead or a pheasant pecking around outside looking for food. More rarely the magnificent heron can be seen wading in the nearby beck. In springtime hear the haunting sound of the curlew calling while flying overhead. This cottage is a walkers delight with access to a hundred square miles of open fell, nearby footpaths will lead you to stunning, hidden waterfalls and tiny becks, while across the valley is an amazing limestone pavement to discover.

Fabulous walks in the Howgills or Wild Boar Fell and others can be made from the door. If it rains then the Aga is always there on your return to dry things out. A small and compact village, Ravenstonedale has much to offer the visitor seeking a quieter experience than the nearby Lake District National Park provides. It is a pretty village; traditional whitewashed stone cottages and stone walls border the fields, whilst the Raven brook trickles by. St Oswald's church is largely from the Georgian era, comprising a solid structure with a simple square tower. In addition, there are elements from older buildings incorporated in it, and the base of a Saxon cross just outside. To the north of the church, excavations in 1920 revealed the foundations of a 13th Century Gilbertine Abbey. Ravenstonedale is a fantastic base for exploring the Lakes to the west or the Yorkshire Dales, just a short drive to the east. Those who prefer to stay closer to home can explore the Howgill Fells, the rounded hills which signal the start of the Lakeland ranges.

It was the perfect scenic base to explore the lakes & the dales and I didn't realise how magnificent the area itself was, you can easily just hike straight from the door. The cottage itself I was pleasantly surprised at how lovely it was inside , I believe it's had an update compared to the advert , it is incredibly cute & cozy and the most comfiest bed I've ever slept in ! There's thoughtful touches such as seeds for the birds and nuts for the elusive red squirrels, hot water bottles for cold nights and much more. We were blessed with sunshine all week but can imagine hot water bottles and extra blankets are much appreciated for the colder months. The garden overlooks the fields filled with spring lambs, friendly cattle who like a chat over the wall and even saw two hares . It was honestly the best week of my life and it has everything you could wish for, I do hope I can return someday and highly recommend it to anyone
