A wealth of wildlife is commonly seen from red squirrel to abundant birdlife and bats. It is not uncommon to see a buzzard soaring overhead or a pheasant pecking around outside looking for food. More rarely the magnificent heron can be seen wading in the nearby beck. Early risers may be rewarded with the sighting of a deer.
Sit outdoors and hear the sound of the curlew flying overhead whilst in the evening listen to tawney owls talking to each other.
This cottage is a walker’s delight with access to a hundred square miles of open fell, nearby footpaths will lead you to stunning, hidden waterfalls and tiny becks, while across the valley is an amazing limestone pavement to discover.
Fabulous walks in the Howgills or Wild Boar Fell and others can be made from the door.
If it rains then the Aga is always comfortingly there on your return to dry things out.
Situated within the newly extended Yorkshire Dales National Park, this is a superb base from which to explore the area. The Lake District is about 20 miles away.
Note: This cottage can be booked with Ref 11602, together they sleep 9.
A small and compact village, Ravenstonedale has much to offer the visitor seeking a quieter experience than the nearby Lake District National Park provides. It is a pretty village; traditional whitewashed stone cottages and stone walls border the fields, whilst the Raven brook trickles by. St Oswald’s church is largely from the Georgian era, comprising a solid structure with a simple square tower. In addition, there are elements from older buildings incorporated in it, and the base of a Saxon cross just outside. To the north of the church, excavations in 1920 revealed the foundations of a 13th Century Gilbertine Abbey. Ravenstonedale is a fantastic base for exploring the Lakes to the west or the Yorkshire Dales, just a short drive to the east. Those who prefer to stay closer to home can explore the Howgill Fells, the rounded hills which signal the start of the Lakeland ranges.

â¨The cottage was cosy and warm and the use of the open fire in the evenings after walking on the fells during the day was very special and really contributed to the enjoyment of our holiday. However the Aga was the real highlight - it really is the heart of the cottage and so welcoming to come back to after being out all day. The cottage was spotlessly clean and maintained to a very high standard and Robert and Sara were friendly, helpful and kind hosts - they genuinely care and look after their guests ensuring they have the best holiday possible. High Sprintgill is situated in a very quiet and peaceful area - the location is amazing and the local scenery is stunningly beautiful - it is wonderful to have direct access to the higher fells and beyond. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at High Sprintgill and look forward to returning to this lovely cottage.â¨

One of the cleanest places we've ever stayed in, with lots of nice touches. Did all our cooking and kettle heating solely on the Aga although there are electric appliances too. Beautiful and peaceful, great views and lovely walks from the front step. Only slight downside is the very rough track up to the house, however it is a farm track with farm vehicles at any time. Very helpful and friendly owners. Highly recommended .Diolch yn fawr! Thankyou.
