Westwood Barn, situated within the grounds of a working farm, offers an ideal base for exploring the much-loved Cumbrian towns of Kirkby Stephen and Appleby, as well as providing easy access to the stunning Lake District. These characterful towns are rich in history, with numerous historic buildings, and offer a delightful selection of independent retailers, cafés, traditional inns, and restaurants.
For those looking to venture further afield, the town of Bowes with its stately home, High Force waterfall, and Barnard Castle are within easy reach. This picturesque corner of the Eden Valley is dotted with charming villages and offers excellent routes for walkers and cyclists, making it a perfect destination for lovers of the great outdoors. Local amenities include a shop 2 miles away and a pub and restaurant just 1½ miles from the barn.
Westwood Barn combines rustic charm with modern comfort, ensuring a pleasant stay for all guests. On the ground floor, you will find four inviting bedrooms. The master bedroom features a sleigh bed and shares a Jack and Jill en-suite bathroom with the second bedroom. This en-suite bathroom is equipped with a bath and shower over, and a toilet. The third bedroom offers a cosy double bed, while the fourth bedroom is perfect for children or additional guests, featuring two single beds and an Xbox 360 for entertainment. A convenient wet room with a shower and toilet is also located on the ground floor, as well as an understairs cupboard housing a washing machine.
The first floor of the barn boasts a spacious living/dining room, complete with a TV and Nintendo Wii, ensuring plenty of entertainment options for all ages. A gas fire adds a cosy touch to the space. The well-equipped kitchen and a separate toilet complete the first-floor layout.

While Westwood barn itself is beautifully converted and in a lovely location, we were disappointed by our view being an abandoned barn full of rubbish at the back. The pictures of the green fields were misleading for what you'd expect from such a location.The management were very frugal with the provision of toilet rolls, dishwasher pods and washing pods and bin bags. For 8 people for a week they only give 6 cheap toilet rolls, and 3 of each pod and ONE SINGULAR bin bag. We have never seen these things being rationed elsewhere and it was highly inconvenient and rather unwelcoming. Be aware that the barn is not child or elderly friendly as the living and kitchen area are upstairs and no safety equipment such as baby gates were available. We couldn't even get a travel cot. The steps are steep for older people and all bedrooms are on the ground floor.Also note the WiFi doesn't work on the lower floor. Although we enjoyed our week away you can get more for your money elsewhere in the at area.

We have just returned from a wonderful Christmas stay at Westwood Barn.The location was great for Kirby Stephen and also a great base for travelling further afield.The Tan Hill Inn is a must when you stay at the Barn.A fabulous time was had by all.
