The heart of this home is definitely the open kitchen with dining area, with its smart, contemporary style, from which one can enjoy the views. Storrs Croft is just 6 miles from the beautiful market town of Kirkby Lonsdale, which offers all the amenities one needs, such as supermarkets, lovely gift shops, restaurants, pubs and cafes. From St Mary’s Church, there is a breathtaking view across the Lune Valley to the Yorkshire Dales. It was named ’Ruskins View’ after the artist who captured its beauty. A few steps away is a 17th century coaching inn, which has oak floors, open fires and real ales. Also, its proximity to both the Yorkshire Dales and Cumbria’s Lake District, together with great access to the motorway network, makes this an ideal touring base, with much to see and do. There are lots of great walks in the area. Arnside and Silverdale, which form a designated aonb, are within 12 miles. For the more adventurous, Warton Crag, 8 miles, provides opportunities for hiking, climbing and abseiling. Warton is also home to Leighton Hall, a historic house with pretty gardens, children’s play area, maze and tea rooms. It hosts various events throughout the year, such as an outdoor theatre and car rallys. Other activities available locally include cycling, fishing, horse riding and golf. Lancaster also has a large sports and leisure centre. Nature lovers will love Leighton Moss rspb Nature Reserve, 10 miles, where the BBC’s Autumnwatch was filmed. Other places of interest nearby include Morecambe, 11 miles, Lancaster and Ingleton, both 12 miles. Just over 30 minutes drive will take you to Grange-over-Sands, Cartmel or Kendal, and within an hour you can be exploring Lake Windermere or Lancashire’s beautiful Ribble Valley and Forest of Bowland. Shop and pub 2 miles.

The cottage is near to towns and amenities but not walking distance. Very warm and comfortable with plenty of space. It was let down by the lack of attention to detail I would expect from the star rating given to it by cottages.com.There were only 3 wine glasses for a 6 person cottage. A glass had been left in the dishwasher on our arrival and there large pieces of broken glass in the dishwasher. There was a very basic welcome pack of some coffee, tea and sugar packets but no milk. Finally, on checking to make sure we hadnt left anything we found underwear from a previous occupant had been left under the bed. The location and comfort for the three days we were there were fine but i think it could have been a lot better with a little more care.

A nice cottage in a good location for visiting Morecambe Bay and the south Lake District. My one concern is proximity of the property’s entrance/exit to the Kirby Lonsdale/Carnforth road. This is a narrow B road and although not overly busy there is a fair amount of traffic including farm vehicles, buses, cars and, particularly over the weekend, motor-cycles and bicycles. The entrance is somewhat concealed and, when travelling from North to south, just over the brow of a hill. When exiting it is very difficult to see the road clearly, particularly to the right (the north), and there is no warning to the traffic that there is a concealed entrance. I’m not a nervous driver but I have to say that every time I left the property I was nervous pulling onto the road! A mirror (2 actually) opposite the driveway would help to ease the nerves and a couple of notices around 100m up and down the road might also ensure that drivers are aware of the (concealed) entrance and so might slow down and be prepared to brake.

Great touring centre, 20 minutes to the Lakes, Dales, Bowland and Morecombe Bay. Nice country location.
