Situated in a peaceful and idyllic setting, in the heart of the Lancashire countryside, away from all the hustle and bustle, this semi-detached cottage is in a rural location offering super sunsets, yet is close to local amenities. The cottage is an ideal getaway destination for a wonderful country break. The small and tranquil village of Halsall is located just 3 miles from the market town of Ormskirk, with a variety of individual shops, cafés, restaurants and a twice weekly market. The local gastro pub and restaurant which can be reached within a 20-minute walk, offers meals, or take a long boat cruises along the canal for either afternoon tea or even an evening tapas cruise.
Cyclists and walkers can explore for miles along this part of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. There are more eateries in neighbouring Town Green, which also has a train station, where you can take the train into central Liverpool in half an hour, to enjoy a visit to the theatre or a shopping spree in the popular Liverpool One. The coastal town of Southport is just 8 miles away, with its long sandy beach and promenade. Visit some of the popular attractions including Splash World, the Botanic Gardens and the renowned Lord Street with an abundance of shops, bars and restaurants. There are a number of events held annually in Southport, including the famous Air Show, Southport Flower Show and the British Musical Fireworks Championships, which is held in Victoria Park. Southport is also home to the world renowned Royal Birkdale Golf Club which hosts a number of international events, located just a 10-minute drive from Buttercup Cottage. Hurlston Hall Golf Course is located just 2 miles away, which together with West Towers in Aughton, is a popular local wedding venue. Further afield, the city of Manchester and the Trafford Centre can be reached in under an hour or a take a trip to Lancaster or the South Lakes in just over an hour. Beach 8 miles. We had a lovely special time and will definitely go back. The pool and gardens are amazing and terrace and gazebo a gorgeous addition. For information only - things I wish I’d known: - The ‘cottage’ is an extension of the owner’s house and is ground floor only - The jacuzzi is the same temperature as the pool- pool cover needs putting back on after every swim- the long garden is only accessible through the pool room- some of the furniture is a little broken, eg coffee table, kitchen kickboards and loose plug sockets- the barbecue is a coal one and no fuel is provided. It must be cleaned thoroughly (we had no means of cleaning it) or you are charged for the cleaning. This barbecue only arrived during our stay so I’m sure these things will adapt with time- we received bread, milk, marmalade, biscuits, ham, cheese and a bottle of prosecco on arrival which was lovely- salt, pepper, cooking oil, dishcloth, washing up scourer, kitchen roll, washing machine capsules and handwash NOT provided- WiFi not good during our stay but we didn’t raise this with Michelle so may have been an easy fix - sofa is leather - not the same sofa as pictured- you cannot swim on last morning as pool cleaning begins before your departure time - Michelle was a perfect host and very eager to help with everything but also gave us our space - for example we asked to borrow baking trays as there weren’t any and she went straight out and bought new ones- great location for Southport and Liverpool Perfect holiday if you love swimming or have children as we had the pool to ourselves all week and that is hard to find in any rental property. Came in very handy during a heatwave!

What a lovely place, the cottage is just big enough for 4 but the icing on top was the pool area, if it wasn't for planned trips out we'd have stayed in there all day. The host Michelle is a lovely lady, warm and friendly and nothing was a problem. Ormskirk is a short drive, we had breakfast one morning at the village bakehouse cafe, approx 5 mins drive, a lovely breakfast served by 2 very nice ladies. Definitely looking at staying at the cottage again very soon

Buttercup cottage had everything we wanted for a relaxing stay away from it all but still within easy reach of local amenities (some walkable) and places of interest.The host was also very welcoming and the goodie box a welcome surprise
