About this property
An outstanding detached, brick-built, former farm building on a working farm on the edge of the pretty village of Bispham Green, ten miles from Southport. Voted the Best Self Catering Holiday Provider 2014, at the Visit Lancashire awards, this cosy cottage has been thoughtfully converted to provide superb facilities over one floor, yet it still retains the immense character and charm of the original dwelling. Modern styling and elegant furnishings are evident throughout the accommodation in this Lancashire cottage, which features a spacious living room with crook beams and exposed brickwork, a stylish kitchen, a lovely bedroom with en-suite bathroom, and a delightful private garden.
The owners have private freshwater ponds, where free fishing is available. Nearby there are many interesting things to do and see including the Cedar Farm Galleries, Rufford Old Hall and Formby Point, which boasts a large area of beach, sand dunes and pine woods, which are still home to the red squirrel. This Lancashire cottage makes a great touring base, with the Lake District, the western Dales and the Trough of Bowland just an hour’s drive. The pretty Lancashire village of Bispham Green has lovely traditional brick built cottages, old farmhouses and barn conversions. The village has a number of country pubs and is surrounded by stunning countryside. There are many attractions and places to visit nearby including the excellent Martin Mere nature reserve, Mere Sands Wood and the market town of Ormskirk. Just ten miles away is the seaside town of Southport, which offers many shops, golf courses, a promenade and the annual events of Southport Flower Show and the spectacular air show. Bispham Green is a fantastic base for Manchester, Liverpool and the Lake District, plus with many attractions and places to visit nearby, you will be spoilt for choice!

We were told the door would be left open. When we arrived, there wasnât a sign indicating which cottage was which and we didnât want to walk into the wrong one. The owner came over and we werenât given the most friendly welcome. After a long journey, we were hoping there might be basics included such as tea or coffee. We saw the owner again as we were leaving to go to the shops and asked if there was any. She advised that there normally is, but her regular cleaner was away and she didnât know where it was kept. She did ask if it was the only thing we were shopping for, as she could let us have a bit from her house, but she didnât follow up when we said we needed to go out to pick up some food. Change in cleaner might explain why it wasnât quite clean - lots of cobwebs (and spiders), sticky kitchen surfaces, dirty bathroom mirror etc. Not terrible, but not up to my own standards (and Iâm used to spiders living in a barn conversion). No tea towel or cloth or anything to wipe down. The bed was very squeaky and, whilst not as uncomfortable as feared, did mean that I was conscious of disturbing my partner when turning over. The property itself is very nice but could be perfect.

Lovely cottage Would definitely recommend a stay in this accommodation with plenty of interesting places to explore We have stayed in many UK cottages and Maltkiln cottage is one of the best Peter and Linda Davey Cumbria

The stay is absolutely comfortable. The cottage is very clean and tidy, supplied with all needed utensils and crockery so no worry of making simple dinner after a day. There are also farms and shops around so it is not just quiet and cosy stay but also convenient nice places to spend time with.
