Guests say

Bailey Cottage in the Peak District & Derbyshire Dales is highly praised for its cosiness, cleanliness, and value for money. Guests appreciate the property's proximity to local amenities, beautiful walks, and welcoming atmosphere for pets. The attentive hosts and personal touches contribute to a home-from-home experience, despite limited parking and a small patio area.

Guests consistently mention the cottage's spotless condition, indicating a high level of cleanliness that contributes to the overall comfort and appeal of the property.

The location is celebrated for its convenience to Dovestone Reservoir, local villages, and walking routes. The limited parking is a minor drawback, but the property's accessibility to amenities and natural beauty is a significant plus.

Reviewers find the cottage cosy and relaxing, with a homely feel that allows guests to unwind. The property is well-received for its comfortable atmosphere, which is essential for an enjoyable stay.

While guests are pleased with the overall experience, there is insufficient detail in the reviews to accurately assess the facilities and maintenance of the property.

The owners' attentiveness and the mention of a welcome package suggest a high level of thoughtfulness. However, it should be noted that such personal touches, while appreciated, may vary and are not guaranteed for every stay.

About this property

Bailey Cottage is a delightful stone terraced cottage settled in Greenfield and is an ideal base for friends or a family looking for a getaway to Greater Manchester as well as for hikers and mountain bikers. There is a secure outbuilding with electricity for E-bike charging. Upon arrival be met with the charming exterior, dotted with ivy and mature shrubs. Unpack and make yourself at home in the inviting living room with its plush sofas, the welcoming glow of a woodburning stove and a Smart TV including Netflix, ideal for a movie marathon, plus a desk space for anyone who needs to work whilst away. The kitchen/diner is a spacious room with dining seating for six, and ample amenities to cater to your culinary needs, as well as access to a small, non-enclosed rear patio. The patio backs onto a communal alleyway, where you can enjoy the sense of community this row of terraced houses provides. Throughout the property you will find three bedrooms, all serviced by a contemporary bathroom with the option of a warm shower or a soak in the tub. Choose between a double with storage, a second small double and an attic twin room with wooden roof beams. Greenfield is a lovely village nestled into the rural outskirts of greater Manchester. The village offers local pubs including The Clarence, eateries such as Dome Café, a local supermarket for essentials and walks beside Chew Brook towards the River Tame. There are two golf courses within easy reach, Andrew Earlam Golf and Stamford Golf Club, as well as local walks at the close by Peak District National Park. Walks include Dovestone Reservoir, where there is a sailing club, Charnel Stones, Dovestone Edge, The Trinnacle, Wildboar Clough and many more. For a day in the city, catch the train into Manchester and enjoy the many shops, pubs, bars and eateries, as well as the National Football Museum, Manchester Art Gallery, Science and Industry Museum and live music at one of the many venues. Walk straight from the house onto Saddleworth moor to enjoy some of the most beautiful scenery in England without crossing a road. Enjoy all of this and so much more with a stay at Bailey Cottage.

Greenfield is one of seven villages nestling amongst the 18,000 acres of moorland hills, open fields and scenic valleys that comprise the Saddleworth area. These Pennine villages have a wool spinning and agricultural heritage dating back to the Industrial Revolution, but today Saddleworth has evolved into an attractive South Pennine and Peak District National Park area with breathtaking views and glorious stone-built buildings. Greenfield is a thriving little village with a good range of amenities, and well placed to explore the South Pennine region. Greenfield has Saddleworth’s largest park in Churchill Playing Fields, which includes a skateboard park and tennis courts. It also has the canal marina and Saddleworth’s train station, which is an extremely popular stopping off point on the ‘Real Ale Rail Trail’ and offers easy access into Manchester for a city visit. Live entertainment at local pubs includes folk, rock, jazz and classical guitar concerts, and the ‘Off the Rails’ comedy club.

Saddleworth is home to a wide range of festivals and community events, the most famous of which is the Whit Friday Band contest, which attracts the UK’s and Europe’s top brass bands and was the backdrop to the film ‘Brassed Off’. Another well loved film ‘Yanks’ was set in Saddleworth and is also commemorated by a major weekend festival.

Almost every weekend features a visitor attraction, be it a canal festival, vintage car rally, the Saddleworth Rushcart procession, real ale festival, morris dancing competition or the well regarded Farmer’s Market. Nearby attractions include Dovestones Reservoir for boating and walks, and the Castleshaw Valley with an interpretation trail for a Roman fort, the highest of a series built on the Roman military road from Chester to York.

The owners are really attentive and reply really quickly and the welcome package was a lovely touch. It had everything you would need and was spotlessly clean. The cottage is in a fantastic location with some fantastic walks and great local pubs. We were able to walk to other villages which was a nice change to always needing a car. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to anyone.
