Guests say

Southport Coach House is highly praised for its well-equipped facilities, including a pool table and games console, and its convenient location. Guests appreciate the secure parking, the property's unique charm, and the thoughtful touches like a welcome bottle of wine. While most reviews are positive, noting the property's cleanliness and comfort, a few guests mention issues with bed comfort and the layout.

The majority of guests found the Coach House to be spotless, with several reviews specifically mentioning the cleanliness, which suggests a high standard of hygiene. One review mentioned the place felt dusty, but this seems to be an isolated comment.

The location is frequently described as convenient, with easy access to Southport's centre, train station, and attractions. Some guests found it a bit far for walking into town, but this was mitigated by the availability of cheap taxis and public transport.

While many guests found the Coach House comfortable and cosy, there were a few remarks about uncomfortable beds and sofas, and the layout being challenging due to the spiral staircase. The positive comments, however, outnumber the negative ones.

Facilities are generally well-received, with special mentions of the pool table, secure parking, and well-equipped kitchen. However, some guests suggested improvements such as additional kitchen storage and comfortable seating, and one mentioned difficulty with the heating controls.

Guests have mentioned thoughtful gestures such as a welcome bottle of wine and Easter eggs. However, as these gifts are not consistently referenced across all reviews, it cannot be guaranteed that such gestures are a standard practice for every stay.

About this property

A detached former coaching house set to the rear of the owners impressive Victorian House in the popular Victorian seaside town of Southport, Lancashire. Dating back to 1890, this Victorian property has been lovingly restored to provide perfect family accommodation for visitors of this vibrant area. Set over two floors, the house includes a generously-sized ground floor bedroom which includes a double and single bed, and a twin room on the first floor. Upstairs the main living space is a fantastic space to enjoy time with loved ones as the large room includes a pool table and a comfortable lounging area. The floor is complete with a family bathroom which includes a TV to watch while soaking away life's troubles in the tub. The ground floor also features a well-equipped kitchen with dining area and with original features on display. Outside you will find a large, private garden, perfect for alfresco dining or enjoying a drink, relaxing and taking in the sea air. Southport has attracted visitors for generations, and the house isn't far from its many attractions, including the pleasure pier, bustling sea front and championship golf course. Within a quarter of an hours walk you will find Lord Street, the main shopping street, full of fantastic eateries and shops, and superb architecture claimed to have been an inspiration for the tree-lined boulevards of Paris. For a day out in the city, why not take the short train journey to Liverpool and take in the sights and sounds, while visiting the many attractions of the city centre with its abundance of museums, shops and restaurants? Slightly further afield, the Roman city of Chester is not to be missed, with its enchanting cobbled streets and Roman walls. For those looking for a more relaxed day out, Southport has many beautiful parks and coastal walks to enjoy as well as being close to the Ribble Estuary Nature Reserve. A wonderful holiday base for that seaside break, any time of year!

Southport, along with its neighbour Ainsdale, lies on the coastline where the Irish Sea meets North West England. The town was founded in 1792 when an innkeeper, William Sutton, built a bathing house at what is now the south end of Lord Street, the main road running through the town. The town was small and not very widely populated until the turn of 19th century, when it became popular with tourists due to the easy access it provided to Leeds and Liverpool Canal. It quickly expanded and now boasts the second longest pleasure pier in the British Isles, the Southport Pier Tramway and Lord Street, an elegant, tree-lined shopping destination.

There were four of us and our secret friend Goldilocks ;.) staying for a week and we had a great time here. We were left alone to enjoy our holiday but reassured if anything came up it would be attended to straight away. Alan was very helpful and engaging both at the beginning and end of our holiday and just a couple of texts in between to see if everything was ok. Just the right interaction without being obtrusive. I would book the Coach House again and may be back next year.

I was suitably impressed with the amazing restoration of the Coach House and the spiral staircase and addition of a pool table were perfect for the family. Our host was very curtious on the welcome tour and afterwards was very responsive to any further queries we had. We had a couple of BBQs in the lawned garden and the surrounding area is very quite for relaxing in the evening. Always a perfect question to ask yourself at the end of a holiday is would you return and the overwhelming answer for all the family is yes.

Both our boys loved the first floor, their private tv with Netflix and a Wii console plus the pool table. Both the bedrooms and bathroom are very spacious. Owner was on hand when we arrived to answer any questions. Definitely would come back.
