Guests say

Cuckoo Nest is a charming cottage in the Peak District, praised for its cleanliness, stunning views, and peaceful setting. Guests appreciate the cosy atmosphere, the outdoor decking, and the friendly hosts. While some find the space small and the facilities limited, the unique experience and beautiful location are highly valued.

The majority of guests report the cottage as clean and tidy, with only a few noting issues with cleanliness. The positive remarks suggest a high standard of cleanliness overall.

The location is consistently praised for its beauty, tranquillity, and proximity to local attractions. The stunning views and peaceful surroundings contribute to a high score.

Guests find the cottage cosy and the bed comfortable, though some mention limited headroom and challenges with the loft space. The comfort of the sofa bed is also noted as a concern.

While the host's thoughtfulness is appreciated, guests mention a lack of storage, cooking facilities, and issues with hot water. The absence of a microwave and the inconvenience of the ladder to the loft are noted.

Guests mention the provision of basic essentials and warm touches like scones, cream, and a birthday cake. However, as these gifts are not guaranteed for every stay, they are a delightful bonus rather than an expectation.

We were really happy with our stay. It was clean, great view, great location, good recommendations and really friendly and accommodating hosts. We would stay again if in the area. Thank you!

For just a few £££'s more I could have had a detached 2/3 Bedroomed House/Cottage, whereas this property is Very Small, not sure how you would fit in a Cot as well? Facility wise it is a bit sparse. If you plan to Fry some food forget it as there is no extraction available, so I'd avoid that, also there is no Micro-Wave, which is strange these days. If you plan to stay for a week then be aware that there are no storage facilities for clothes or even for food, although you will probably be eating out? The Hot water for pot washing only last a couple of minutes before it goes cold. To watch TV you have to keep removing the ladder out of the way. The bedroom doesn't fit my description of a bedroom, it is basically a mattress on a loft floor, no cupboards or drawers or mirrors also very little headroom, about 2', so it's a "crawl" to get in and out of bed. The upper "bedroom" is not suitable for anyone that might have disabilities etc. due to having to climb a ladder to access the mattress. The lighting is very bright, so a Table Lamp would be helpful for nighttime. We never got to me the hosts, so I can't comment on that. I know this is a negative review, and I'm sorry to leave one, but people should be made aware of the limitations that they will encounter. For me this was booked on the "Spur of the Moment", so I guess I'm partially to blame for not reading the comments etc. If you are just doing a 1/2-night stay, then this would be ideal, but anything over, in my opinion, would need a bit of consideration.

Our car bogged down in the deep gravel, we moved it the following day. Six wall hooks is not enough storage for five nights stay. No inside foot mat, changed muddy shoes outside in the rain. Fold out dinning table not fit for purpose as it hits the wooden loft ladder. Ate all meals on our lap putting all beverages on the floor as no table. Watched five days of iPLAYER, no terrestrial channels due to location, we do not have Netflix or Sky accounts, No microwave listed in description but really missed when not there. No side lights or lampshade, kept loft light on as downstairs ceiling lights far too bright due to low ceiling and white walls. After two nights in the loft we slept on the sofa-bed, we felt it too risky reversing out of bed with 3' headroom in the dark to negotiate a 9' ladder to go to the loo whilst half asleep. If your partner goes to the loo at night chances are you will be awoken. 'Sofa-bed' is lumpy, bumpy with stains and extremely uncomfortable. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On our last day we awoke to find the hob, oven and radiator had lost their programme, we informed Louisa and her husband came to assist. He was wonderful, boiling our milk and reassuring us he would fix whilst we were out walking. He explained power cuts were frequent and this was most probably the cause. Whilst walking we received a random PDF file from Louisa for a LAM3410 oven and hob stating, 'hope this helps'. We explained her husband was resolving the issue and without any fact finding or investigation we received upsetting and confrontational texts stating we had locked it, we had used it all week and previous guests had managed to use them properly for two years. We explained Louisa's husband stated it was a power cut but this was ignored. We stated we had been hill walking for six hours and would have no cooking facilities on our return. We had to trawl though eighteen pages of text to find out how to unlock the hob before we could start cooking. We also received a text saying 'I hope the oven is working as you haven't said otherwise'. Due to the power cut the oven showed 'STOP', at 9pm we were downloading a Lamon3410 oven PDF, we fixed this at 10pm. We texted Louisa saying it would be nice to meet before we left to resolve any issues between us but we never met our host or received the courtesy of a reply. Our check out time was 10am but we left at 08.40 as we just wanted to leave. On returning home we finally contacted the Lamona service helpline who confirmed a 'LOCK' and a 'STOP' on both appliances at the same time would be the result of a power cut and referred us to the youtube channel below. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_jTeLXvG0o&t=3s The property affords a wonderful location and view, unfortunately the novelty of this soon wears off when one has to stay for five nights.
