About this property
A traditional stone-built 18th century terraced cottage ideally located in the centre of the thriving village of Winster, just 4.5 miles from Matlock. Beautifully furnished throughout, this Peak District cottage offers contemporary accommodation which is perfect for friends and families to enjoy time together. A babypack including cot, baby feeding chair, stairgate and many other items is available on request, ensuring the cottage is very family friendly. The sleeping accommodation at this cottage in Winster is made up of three lovely bedrooms. The well-equipped fitted kitchen boasts the original stone-flagged floor, the separate dining area has a feature fireplace and a beamed ceiling, whilst the cosy sitting room has a warming woodburning stove and beamed ceiling.
To the rear of this Winster cottage is an attractive private patio courtyard with garden furniture, a BBQ and a chiminea for those cool evenings. The conservation village of Winster boasts a well stocked community village shop and cafe as well as two excellent pubs and is home to a 17th century Market House which is owned by the National Trust. Matlock, Bakewell and Chatsworth House are close by, as well as magnificent walks from the doorstep. For the more adventurous, Carsington Water, with its many activities, is only 9 miles away. This is an excellent base for a wonderful Peak District holiday all year round.
Winster is an attractive village situated within the Peak District National Park. Winster has a shop, post office, and two pubs. Within easy reach of Winster are Chatsworth House, Bakewell, Ashbourne and Alton Towers.

It's clean, quiet and airy with facilities like the shop and pubs within walking distance. You can walk from the door, across fields or the valley to nearby villages. Matlock is 15 minutes by car, plenty of parking, good choice of shops. Would welcome more basics, like dishwasher tabs and loo roll for peace of mind. Booking and payment through Sykes very straightforward, have booked next year's already.

The photos on the Syke site are very favourable and do not show that the dining room carpet has marks all over it (this was mentioned in a review in 2025 and the owner said it would be replaced). My aim is to stay in a property that is equal to or better than our own home and Daisy Cottage didn't match this expectation. As others have also mentioned, the lack of welcome basket and a log burner starter kit was noticeable as these are standard in holiday cottages these days. The dirty carpet gave a poor first impression and made the space feel slightly grubby. The sofas were uncomfortable, and it wasn't possible to close the large cupboard in the livingroom. The kitchen is dated including a gas cooker that has a 'knack' to be able to close the door. The washing up bowl needs replacing. Upstairs we could only find one exceptionally thin pillow per bunk bed so had to use cushions from the livingroom. The bathroom sink is cracked and again dated. The eye for detail is missing throughout the cottage with no full length mirror and screws visible holding a mirror up in the bedroom. The heating was also set to 5 on every radiator which was very unpleasant to wake up to. If it was my cottage, I would completely refit & redecorate the kitchen and bathroom to a higher standard, put wooden floor down downstairs, or change the carpets, put a welcome basket and log started kit out and ensure there were decent quality pillows available. The outside of the cottage is beautiful and neighbours lovely. The park so close by is great and parking possible but not easy, I think the photos make it look like a bigger space than it is. In conclusion, we wouldn't stay at Daisy Cottage again as it needs investment to bring it up to todays standards of a 4 star accommodation. I would view it in it's current state 3 with the current carpet more like 2. I'm aware that there are guests that seem to enjoy it and return which is great for the owner.

There were heaps of toys for the kids (2 & 5) to play with, and a good tv with Netflix etc. As other people have said the parking slot is a bit of a nightmare, but you can get a big car in eventually - but far easier to just park in free on street parking in the village. Best suited to one family - with more than two adults the relaxing space would probably be a bit cramped. Overall, we would come back!
