About this property

A lovely, chocolate box cottage in the centre of the beautiful conservation village of Winster. This charming cottage is perfect for a family or group of friends and retains many of its original features, such as exposed beams and stone fireplace but also has a contemporary twist with its boutique-style décor and furnishings. The bedrooms are all very tastefully decorated with added quirky soft furnishings and lovely deep stone windows, giving a light, pleasant feel to the rooms. The modern, stylish bathroom has everything you need to relax after a long day of outdoor activities. A delightful sitting room, featuring a woodburning stove with deep stone surround and comfy sofas, gives a lovely cottage feel, making a perfect place to sit back and chill out with your favourite tipple in the evenings. There’s a fully-equipped kitchen, complete with quarry tile-style flooring, and interesting features such as exposed stone around the lovely deep window, giving lots of natural light. It’s a perfect place to cook a lovely dinner or hearty breakfast and then eat together in the farmhouse-style dining room. Outside is a good-sized garden with views of the beautiful surrounding hills with patio furniture, making this a great place for some alfresco dining while taking in the stunning scenery, perfect for letting the kids play and run off any extra energy! Winster is a charming and interesting old village, built in pale limestone, creamy sandstone and dark gritstone. Surrounded by glorious scenery, there are two pubs providing home-cooked food and traditional ales, a general store and a Post Office. The Limestone Way footpath passes close by and there are many good routes for ramblers. For some history and exploring, Matlock Bath, Bakewell, Chatsworth House and the High Peak Caverns are all a short drive away, making this an ideal year-round destination.

With an impressive 17th century market house at its centre, the conservation village of Winster is situated within the Peak District National Park. This extremely pretty location is mostly composed of three main streets - Main Street, East Bank and West Bank boasting imposing 18th Century farm houses, nearly all of which are at least three storeys tall. Off the main street visitors can find the slightly less grand though equally fascinating 'ginnels', or alleyways. The village still holds a number of traditional events throughout the year, such as a pancake race every Shrove Tuesday and the annual Wakes festivities which take place in June, as well as events hosted by the local Morris dancers. The village boasts plenty of essential amenities too - a post office/gift shop, a well stocked grocer's shop and two pubs both serving food and local traditional beers.

It was the second time we’ve stayed at the cottage and look forward to our next time!

Quaint cottage in a beautiful setting. Very comfortable with a home from home feel. We felt the television was a bit small and the larger oven wasn’t heating up, needs a new seal. Luckily we could use the smaller oven which worked okay. All in all a lovely weeks holiday.

Exploring the many walkways in Winster was great with expansive views. The steps were very steep at the cottage and were a challenge for us and our older dogs but didn’t spoil the break. Chatsworth House and farm shop a definite go to for a day out where you could purchase fantastic local produce. People were very friendly and the scenic countryside went on for miles. To enjoy the area you did need to drive a lot but taking a wrong turn showed just how beautiful the area is.
