River Cottage in Matlock is praised for its lovely location, ample space, and well-equipped kitchen. Guests appreciate the comfortable furnishings and dog-friendly garden, though some note the road noise and lack of WiFi. The local area offers wonderful walks, charming pubs, and is within easy reach of shops by car.
Guests have described the cottage as very clean and welcoming, indicating high standards of cleanliness.
The cottage is well-located for walks and exploring the local area, with convenient parking and nearby pubs. However, some guests found the road noise and narrow footpaths to be minor drawbacks.
Most guests found the beds comfortable and the cottage cosy, although one guest mentioned the beds were too hard for their preference.
The property is equipped with a good-sized kitchen and bathroom, but the absence of WiFi and potential for dogs to escape the garden suggest room for improvement in facilities and maintenance.
There is no mention of gifts or special touches that would indicate thoughtfulness, so it is not possible to provide a score in this category.

River Cottage is a lovely place with plenty of room for me and my 2 children. It's excellently located for wonderful walks. It is important to note that there is no WiFi. My kids were horrified! The kitchen was a really good size and well equipped. Bathroom was lovely. Bedrooms were a good size. I personally found the bed much too hard, but others in the visitors book had said how confy they were. It's situated on a reasonably busy road, so road noise was quite irritating when the windows were open. The garden was perfectly adequate for most dogs but my dogs could've escaped easily as a storage box was next to the fence... a convenient step for escapes for medium sized dogs plus. I really enjoyed my stay there. The walking was fantastic, and if you're happy with no WiFi and your dogs aren't interested in going over fences, I would definitely recommend this place.

Had a weeks holiday with our 2 dogs it was amazing, River Cottage is absolutely delightful, beautifully decorated in keeping and oh so comfortable (even the beds) a very clean and welcoming Cottage, with everything you will need for a wonderful break, owners are very accommodating nothing is too much trouble! Garden is quirky not massive but very dog friendly! Footpaths outside are a bit narrow but not a problem and car parking is always available near the Bridge ( just on the corner)We were lucky with the weather so got plenty of time exploring Darley bridge, walking by the River Derwent and lots of exploring, plenty of shops within easy reach by car, the 2 local welcoming dog friendly pubs are well within walking distance, lovely food and ambience! The wild garlic was in abundance so we used it in cooking 😋 River Cottage is highly recommended would DEFINITELY return again *****
